Becky Thompson made her reputation as a blogger under the pseudonym Scissortail Silk. “I started this blog in 2013 as a fashion/lifestyle blog… mostly so boutiques would send me free clothes,” Thompson explained in an autobiographical statement found on her eponymous home page, the Becky Thompson Website. “Here in Oklahoma … our state bird is the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher,” she stated. “Often, you’ll see these birds perched on a barbed wire fence out in the middle of nowhere… and the word silk happens to be an old slang word for barbed wire.” “But something unexpected happened,” Thompson continued, “… when God asked me what I wanted people to read when they came to this page… and what I really wanted to offer women.” Her blog morphed over time from a fashion blog to one celebrating Christian values and motherhood. From that, she explained, came her books Hope Unfolding: Grace-filled Truth for the Momma’s Heart and Love Unending: Rediscovering Your Marriage in the Midst of Motherhood.

In Hope Unfolding, Thompson takes readers through her own life and shows her own faith journey. “Becky is a gifted story-teller!” asserted Lizzie Smiley on the Peaceful Home website. “She has a poetic way with words that make her style easy to read and as sweet as chocolate. It doesn’t take excessive effort or brainpower—although it is FILLED with insight, should you have the time and energy to analyze and self-reflect on the lessons and scriptures within its pages. It’s also written so you can squeeze in a ten minute chapter, put it down for a few days, and comfortably pick [it] back up.” “I am so glad that I found the time to read this gem!” exclaimed a Faithful Farmwife website contributor. “The five minutes of encouragement that I found within these pages each morning has been enough to keep me from going crazy. I am reminded to pray for myself and my family.” “I have never read anything more honest and real than this book. Becky Thompson shows the reader her heart, mind, and soul,” stated Rose Majka in Blogging for Books. “Every Christian mom, or a mom that wants to let God into their heart, should read this book. It is truly inspirational. Thank you Becky Thompson for reminding us that we are all good moms.”

Love Unending is a set of spiritual exercises designed for busy wives and mothers. “When you have kids you think that you will still be able to be a wonderful wife,” declared a contributor to Living Better One Day at a Time. “Well, in my own life I know that there have been times since I became a mom that I felt that maybe I was putting my husband and marriage on the back burner.” “Thompson’s stories and advice,” said a Publishers Weekly reviewer, “will resonate with many married women who want to reconnect with their husbands.” “Becky truly helps each of us,” wrote a reviewer for Now You’re My Whole Life. “It’s the most perfectly designed book with a daily challenge (simple but meaningful), reflection, and prayer (collectively about 2-3 pages) that helps you focus attention and rediscover your marriage all while being a mama!” “The book reminded me that I married my husband before there were children. And I will still be his wife after the children are grown,” observed a reviewer for the Joyfully Thriving website. “There is a lot of simple but good, heart-felt marriage advice.” “I love Becky Thompson’s writing,” enthused a Finchnwren website reviewer. “Her first book encouraged me greatly, and this one is both an encouragement and a challenge.  But, it’s a challenge which is designed to bring forth great fruit and awesome results. Pick up a copy.  Read this book… and commit to its challenges!”

Hey, I’m so glad you decided to see who you’re talking to! First impressions are important, so I’ll say only good things about myself here at the beginning… then we’ll get into my real story.

I’m Becky Thompson, and I’m married to Jared. We have three kids, Kolton (7), Kadence (6) and Jaxton (3). We live in a little town in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma, where I stay home to write and take care of our kids. My husband does a lot of everything. He’s a welder who constructs natural gas pipelines. He’s a firefighter. He was our town mayor until a few months ago (when we announced we were moving to Los Angeles). He’s also the tech/media director at our church.

I started this blog in 2013 as a fashion/lifestyle blog… mostly so boutiques would send me free clothes. But something unexpected happened just a few months later when God asked me what I wanted people to read when they came to this page… and what I really wanted to offer women.

I’ll be honest, it was a little difficult stopping the flow of free clothes, but this site transitioned into a place where women could gather to encounter authentic Hope.

After a crazy year where my page was visited more than 12 million times and multiple articles went viral, I was offered the opportunity to write a few books with the largest publishing house in the world. So that has been pretty fun.

Becky Thompson. WaterBrook, $14.99 trade paper (224p) ISBN 978-1-60142-810-3

In her second book, blogger and writer Thompson (Hope Unfolding) challenges mothers to commit to loving their husbands like they did when they first fell in love. She urges women to think back to the beginning of their relationships, a time when their hearts still raced to get a text message or a phone call, they endlessly brainstormed little ways to show their love, and they never chose Facebook or Netflix over some quality time together. The book is structured as a 21-day challenge, and each chapter focuses on different facets of marriage that many women might struggle with and actionable steps they can take to cultivate their relationship with their husbands. Thompson shares personal stories of her struggles as a wife and mother and the lessons she's learned throughout her marriage and her own 21-day challenge. Each chapter also includes a short applicable Bible verse, a prayer, and prompts for journaling and ' reflection. Though directed primarily at mothers, Thompson's stories and advice will resonate with many married women who want to reconnect with their husbands and discover how "walking in love can be far more beautiful than falling in love." Becky Thompson’s “Love Unending” ~ My Review
posted in Book reviews, books by finchnwren
Who wouldn’t want an unending love? (Wait…wasn’t there an 80’s song about that? Maybe that was “everlasting love….”) It’s a deep desire, a hope, and a dream for many of us.

    love-unending-cover-banner

But love, as we know, isn’t dependent only on one person. It has to be reciprocal. And, it’s not a one-time feeling that stretches out into eternity without any effort on our part. Life can get challenging. And love can face its own challenges; with illnesses, parenthood, job issues…all these and other problems can take their tolls.

Becky Thompson has authored a book just for moms to help us to maintain our love relationships and our marriages in her new book, Love Unending: Rediscovering Your Marriage in the Midst of Motherhood. I didn’t have to think twice about reading this one, because I had so dearly loved her other book, Hope Unfolding. (You can read my review on that book if you click here on the book title! Hope Unfolding) The author, who understands how the love of a marriage relationship can get buried under life’s and parenting’s responsibilities, has created this wonderful book which leads moms through a 21-day challenge which is designed to reawaken–and rekindle–that first love of marriage.

In Love Unending, Thompson shares how she observed her dad’s incredible, faithful, and fresh love for her mom. One day, she asked him how she could tell women how to keep their marriage relationships vibrant. He answered, “Becky, just tell them to do what I do.”

    What did he do?

Each day when he woke up, he told himself that this was the first day he was married to Becky’s mom.

This enabled him to remember the girl he fell in love with; to start each day without bitterness or yesterday’s offenses on his mind; to return to new love each morning. Pretty amazing advice!

Thompson starts with this, and then lays out 21 chapters (plus an introduction and a conclusion) with a devotional, a challenge, a prayer prompt, and reflection (how the challenge went, the husband’s reaction, and the mom’s heart at the end of the day). Here’s a short list of some of the 21 chapters, and the topics they cover:

    Speak kindly
    Thank him frequently
    Reach out intentionally
    Expect gracefully
    Serve joyfully
    Discover daily
and 15 others, all designed to help us draw closer in our marriages and really see, and appreciate, our spouses
I love Becky Thompson’s writing. Her first book encouraged me greatly, and this one is both an encouragement and a challenge. But, it’s a challenge which is designed to bring forth great fruit and awesome results.

Pick up a copy. Read this book…and commit to its challenges! Even if you are the only one who changes as a result, you will be a happier and more satisfied woman. (And I think your hubs will be, as well!)

Check out Becky’s blog. And her other amazing book, Hope Unfolding. I think you’ll definitely become a new fan!

    Enjoy! –Wren

    LOVE UNENDING
    BY KRISTEN LEAVE A COMMENT

Some of you may have heard me mention Becky Thompson of Scissortail Silk before. I read her book called Hope Unfolding and it was one of those books that spoke directly to my heart. In fact, it’s one of 2 books that I think every mom needs to read.

This post contains affiliate links. You can read more in my disclosure policy.

For that reason, I was very eager to read Becky’s newest book, Love Unending. I was able to get an advance reading copy and dove into it.

Hope Unfolding is written for mothers and to provide encouragement for our day to day life as mom. Love Unending is written to encourage busy mothers to focus (again) on our husband and our marriage. Because, really, how can you have a strong family if you don’t have a strong marriage? This is something I believe wholeheartedly.

Beckylove-unending-by-becky-thompson wrote Love Unending as a 21 day challenge. Each day is a task that we are supposed to do for our husband’s. Very little of it requires him or his knowledge. Rather, each task encourages us to focus on thoughts, words and actions on nurturing the love we have for our husband.

Yes, love changes when we have children. Yes, some days seem too busy to think of anything other than surviving. But, yes, our marriage needs to be nurtured.

I admit that I read more than one task at a time. I liked how the book reminded me that I married my husband before there were children. And I will still be his wife after the children are grown. There is a lot of simple but good, heart-felt marriage advice in this book.

My only critique? I felt like Becky referenced her parent’s marriage a lot but if they really do have a wonderful marriage, and that is the example you have grown up with, it makes sense. I appreciated the examples from her life and marriage more since I knew it was a first-hand account, rather than an observer’s account of a Christ-centered marriage.

If you are interested in rediscovering your marriage in the midst of motherhood, read Love Unending. And be sure to read Hope Unfolding, too!

I received this book for free from Blogging for Books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

    Hope Unfolding
    BECKY THOMPSON

    back to book
I have heard a ton of people say, "You can't learn how to parent from a book." I'm here to say, you're reading the wrong books. There are a lot of amazing parenting books out there, and I am not talking about What to Expect When You're Expecting, I happen to hate that book. I am talking about real books written by real parents. I have recently discovered one of the most amazing books to add to my collection: Hope Unfordling: Grace-filled Truth for the Momma's Heart by Becky Thompson.

Hope Unfoldling: Grace-filled Truth for the Momma's Heart by Becky Thompson isn't a how-to book. It's a book that portrays the reality of being a parent. Being a parent is hard and lonely, a fact that most parents never admit. What Becky Thompson is trying to convey to moms is that you are never alone because God is always with you no matter what kind of day you're having. Not only is God with you, but every other parent in the world is facing these same challenges.

Hope Unfolding really hit me hard. Often times, especially right after Jimmie was born, I felt more alone than ever. I couldn't understand why because I hardly ever alone, Jimmie was always with me. The thought never even occurred to me that while I was breast feeding at 3 AM, God was there holding my hand, whispering in my ear, and encouraging me to keep going. I wish I had this book back then. Instead, I would google all articles about "baby blues," none of which really helped. I love how the author speaks to the reader as if they are sitting at Starbucks together, drinking a cup of coffee. She refers to the reader as "friend" throughout the entire book. It really made me feel understood an heard. On almost every page I found myself either nodding, crying, or laughing. There are some powerful words in here, folks. Words that every mom needs to hear.

Why do we judge each other as moms? Becky Thompson wants to start a revolution where moms encourage each other and not put each other down. Where we don't compare each other, just understand each other. Becky Thompson wants you to know that you ARE a good mom, even when the things you think you did wrong that day keep you up at night worrying. God always believes in you and loves you no matter what: even if you lose your patience, even when you think you messed your child up for the rest of their life. She explains that the Enemy wants you to believe you're a bad mom and wants you to believe you're not living up to everyone else's expectations.

Hope Unfolding consists of personal stories, personal feelings, and prayers. I have never read anything more honest and real than this book. Becky Thompson shows the reader her heart, mind, and soul. I just can't say enough wonderful things about this book without rambling on and on. Every Christian mom, or a mom that wants to let God into their heart, should read this book. It is truly inspirational. Thank you Becky Thompson for reminding us that we are all good moms, you're a good mom too.

Hope Unfoldling: Grace-filled Truth for the Momma's Heart by Becky Thompson will be available for purchase on March 15. You can pre-order a copy from Amazon today.

You can also check out Becky Thompson's blog where you can connect with other moms.

I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review. All the opinions are my own.

Mama, do you feel alone? There are people (mainly little ones) all around you, but none of them see what you are feeling. None of them know how much you pour out of yourself for them. Every second of every day there is someone depending on you. They need food, clothes, water, love, a boo-boo healing kiss, hoof trimming (maybe that is just me–crazy goat lady), you get the picture. You don’t have 5 minutes to have your brain to yourself. You can’t run through your daily plan or just be still… That is where I am in my walk right now. My family is amazing and I have been so incredibly blessed with this life that I have been allowed to live, but mommin’ is tough, y’all!

    Hope Unfolding

Becky Thompson’s book, “Hope Unfolding”, is an encouragement and a reminder to invite Jesus into your lonely & overwhelming moments. Becky shares several stories from her life that are relatable to almost every mother…stories of love, loss, and life in general. Her book makes it clear that we are not alone in our struggles. This is a message that I desperately needed in this phase of my life.

“Hope Unfolding” not only focuses on lifting us up as mamas, but it reminds us that before we were mamas, we were wives. Our husbands need love, encouragement, a friend, and a help mate just as badly as we do, but they often take the backseat to motherhood. This book has encouraged me to remember my husband in the midst of the mess.

In addition to being super relatable & encouraging,”Hope Unfolding” is also engaging & interactive. The end of each chapter has a call to action. A call to pray, journal, and think more deeply about the topic of the chapter. I love this aspect of the book!

    Read it for Yourself

I have struggled to make time to read since baby #3 was born, but I am so glad that I found the time to read this gem! The 5 minutes of encouragment that I found within these pages each morning has been enough to keep me from going crazy. I am reminded to pray for myself and my family and that the mundane is my ministry. Motherhood is what I am called to do. That mission comes with its share of heartache and struggle, just as any other ministry would. I am not alone in these struggles and God has a purpose for my life that I just can’t see yet. If you need these reminders and encouragement like I did then check out Hope Unfolding: Grace-Filled Truth for the Momma’s Hearton Amazon!

    “HOPE UNFOLDING”: A REVIEW
    by Lizzie SmileyHope Unfolding book
“Hope Unfolding: Grace-Filled Truth for the Momma’s Heart” by Becky Thompson of Scissortail SILK
Girls—have I got a treat for you!!! I have to introduce you to Becky Thompson (Scissortail SILK), one of my all-time favorite bloggers to follow on Facebook! If you enjoy following me—you’ll LOVE following her. Becky’s content is always relevant, relatable, and charming. She’s the type of gal you will instantly like—from her big friendly smile to her casual and sweetly comical tone. I was so delighted last fall when I heard she was releasing her first book: “Hope Unfolding,” and I was even more thrilled to get an early release copy so I could write this review and sing her praises.
First, let me tell you a bit of what I know about Becky, the woman! She’s a PK (Pastor’s Kid) who grew up knowing and loving the Lord (LUCKY). She married her sweet husband at a young age and is now a Momma of 3 little ones, living in rural Oklahoma (hence the name “Scissortail SILK”—read about that here). She writes books, blogs, raises her babies, and does some speaking engagements all to serve and encourage her fellow Momma (aka. Warrior). There are thousands of bloggers out there, but I know you’ll agree that Becky is one of a kind. I couldn’t possible say she’s the next “insert famous Christian writer/blogger/speaker/teacher here” because she is 100% her own voice and style, and won’t need to fill any shoes. SO REFRESHING.
    Becky Thompson
    Author Becky Thompson

One thing is very clear: she will leave a rich imprint for Christ on this generation of women. I’m so excited to share her with you and look forward with great anticipation to see all the wonderful things that will come from her generous, faith-filled heart.
Let’s talk about this book, shall we?!
As you probably know, I just became a Momma this past year, and it changed EVERYTHING! I used to be a prolific reader and now it’s almost impossible to find the quiet time to read AT ALL! Fortunately for me, “Hope Unfolding” is an EXCELLENT book for the busy Momma.
First of all—Becky is a gifted story-teller! She has a poetic way with words that make her style easy to read and as sweet as chocolate. It doesn’t take excessive effort or brainpower—although it is FILLED with insight, should you have the time and energy to analyze and self-reflect on the lessons and scriptures within its pages. It’s also written so you can squeeze in a ten minute chapter, put it down for a few days, and comfortably pick back up at the next chapter when you get another a reading break. It’s sort of the perfect mix between a blog and a book. 🙂
The reader will be inspired, encouraged, and lovingly challenged to grow. She will laugh, she will cry, and she will feel validated (PRAISE YOU JESUS!). Such is the style of Becky Thompson. Her down-to-earth stories and willingness to be vulnerable are enough to help any Momma know she is not alone, she’s doing a great job, and her Father in Heaven approves of her.
I would strongly recommend this book for ALL young or first-time Mommas, although any Momma with young kids would feel perfectly at home in its pages. It would make an excellent Easter gift (HINT—it’s being released in MARCH 15, 2016)! It would also be a PERFECT book club read—there are discussion/reflection questions with each chapter that would make for some rich conversation amongst Momma friends or a bible study group.
I hope you will join me in following and supporting this fellow Momma and Sister! I know she will be a great encouragement to you! Will you join me in lifting her up in prayer?
Lord, we come before you in the mighty name of Jesus and lift up your beautiful daughter, Rebecca. We thank you for the gift you have given us in her. Please be with her on this journey you have set before her and give her strength, wisdom, and courage. We ask Lord that you would go ahead of her and make her crooked places straight. Please protect her and her family, and station angels around them to keep them safe. Please bring her every resource and every person she needs both to fulfill her calling and to fill her heart. Richly bless the Thompson family with every blessing. We call forth the plans and purposes you have for Becky, we speak blessing over her, and we ask for your favor, Lord, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
So gals, are you excited yet??? GREAT NEWS—you can get involved right away!

    MY THOUGHTS::

When you have kids you think that you will still be able to be a wonderful wife and a wonderful mother, along with wonderful housekeeper, cook, and any other titles that moms have. Well, in my own life I know that there have been times since I became a mom that I felt that maybe I was putting my husband and marriage on the back burner. Enter the Love Unending challenge from Becky Thompson.

Love Unending: Rediscovering Your Marriage in the Midst of Motherhood is written as a 21 day challenge for moms who want and/or need to remember those first days of being in love with their husbands with the hope that they can rekindle their romances and the fire in their marriages. Every chapter is for a different day and offers a look into Mrs. Thompson's own life and marriage, a challenge and a reflection area, as well as spaces to write your observations and thoughts.

Personally, I loved going through this challenge. It helped me to become aware that I was putting my marriage on the back burner and I needed to take some time to devote to my husband. I loved the challenges and how they made me think and really appreciate my marriage. I do feel that it helped to strengthen my relationship with my husband, even after 11+ years of marriage and 3 kids later. I would highly recommend this book to all moms/wives out there!

Rediscovering Your Marriage in the Midst of Motherhood!

    Ladies,

This post is for you! If you are friends with me on Facebook then you know I share a blog called "Scissortail Silk" quite frequently. The author is my friend Becky Thompson and she shares wisdom about being a wife and mom on her blog and in her book "Hope Unfolding". I came across the book and it hit my heart deep. It was like we were sitting on a couch chatting with one another while I was reading. I have shared it with so many mama friends and they have all loved reading it and finding they're not alone while listening to God's voice in the crazy midst of raising a family.

So, when the news came that she was publishing a new book and I could apply to be on the launch team, I jumped at the chance! After waiting a few weeks an email that I was selected was chosen. Then her new book showed up in my mailbox! Each launch team member got a copy a few months early and started reading as a group of about 200. The tagline for the book is "Rediscovering Your Marriage in the Midst of Motherhood" and Becky truly helps each of us do that. It's the most perfectly designed book with a daily challenge (simple but meaningful), reflection, and prayer (collectively about 2-3 pages) that helps you focus attention and rediscover your marriage all while being a mama! I literally read it when I sit down to feed Maggie in the morning and I start my day. I can't give away the details of the challenges, but I will say they are working in my marriage and the other members of our group. It's incredible what these simple steps can do!
