WRITINGS
SIDELIGHTS
Terri Reed is an American writer of romance and romantic suspense novels with several dozen novels to her credit as stand-alones and in a number of series. “I’ve been making up stories for as long as I can remember,” Reed told Michelle Bowles in What Is That Book About Web site. “In junior high I had an English teacher who really sparked my interest in one day becoming an author. He made me believe that my stories were worth telling. In college, my creative writing professor also encouraged me to pursue writing. However, fear kept me from taking the leap of faith for many years, but I’m so glad I finally gathered enough courage to try.”
It took Reed a number of years before she turned to her first love of writing as a career. For a decade she worked as a model in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco. She also worked as a bank teller, a sales clerk, and a receptionist. “Being a writer is by far the best job ever,” Reed notes on her author home page.
"LOVE INSPIRED" SERIES
One of Reed’s earliest books, Love Comes Home, is part of the “Love Inspired” series, the books of which have a Christian message. Rachel Maguire, who gave up love for a career as a doctor, finally manages to find room for both when returning to her hometown and her first love. “Reed tells the touching story of a couple whose faith must help them overcome past hurts,” commented Vickie McDonough on the RT Book Reviews Web site. A Sheltering Heart finds another female doctor, Gwen Yates, finding unexpected love on a missionary trip to Africa in this “warm and compassionate story, complete with a tender ending,” according to online RT Book Reviews writer Robin Taylor.
In A Time of Hope, Jacob Durand is sent to minister to a small community—not something he had in mind for his career. However, he learns a lesson in humility and love from feisty Mara Zimmer. Writing on the RT Book Reviews Web site, Taylor noted that “Reed’s characters are warm, true to life, and imperfect.” With the help of God, Jake Rodgers, a single dad, finds a second chance at love on a wilderness backpacking trip in Treasure Creek Dad, a “fine romance with well-developed characters,” according to RT Book Reviews Web site contributor Susan Mobley.
"LOVE INSPIRED SUSPENSE" SERIES
Reed has contributed almost twenty novels to the “Love Inspired Suspense” series. In Strictly Confidential, journalist Colleen Montgomery is investigating mysterious Alessandro Donato, wondering if he is involved in something illegal. However, the more she learns, the more she begins to think he may be one of the good guys. Melissa Parcel, writing for the online RT Book Reviews, felt that this “unlikely romance is out of the ordinary and engaging.” In Double Jeopardy, Anne Jones is in witness protection after witnessing the murder of her boss. Temping at a computer company, she is attracted to Patrick McClain, who comes to her aid when new danger arises. “Reed does a terrific job of threading a ribbon of warmth throughout,” noted Patsy Glans on the RT Book Reviews Web site.
Socialite Kristina Worthington and homicide detective Gabriel Burke find a second chance at love in Chasing Shadows, as a missing persons case evolves into something more dangerous. Mobley dubbed this a “great mystery” on the RT Book Reviews Web site, featuring an “intelligent heroine willing to accept protection and an alpha hero who is not overbearing.” In Undercover Marriage, U.S. Marshal Serena Summers blames her partner, Josh McCall, for the death of her brother. Thus, she is less than happy to be partnered with Josh in an undercover operation in which they are supposed to be man and wife. Leslie McKee, writing for the online RT Book Reviews, termed this an “attention-grabbing and intelligently written tale.” Ski jumper Nick Walsh is still grieving the death of his brother in Treacherous Slopes. Reporter Julie Frost wants to further her career by getting a story on this Olympic skier, but soon both are caught up in a web of danger involving the death of Nick’s brother. Writing on the RT Book Reviews Web site, McKee had a varied assessment, observing, “The relationship develops at an appropriate pace, but the suspense is mild.”
"PROTECTION SPECIALISTS" SERIES
Reed launches her “Protection Specialists” series with the 2011 installment, The Innocent Witness, in which Vivian Grant is desperate to protect her autistic son, who witnessed the murder of his father, a senator. Vivian hires Anthony Carlucci for protection, but he has his own sad backstory and is reluctant to deal with such a responsibility again. But faced with predators ready to attack the mother and son, he does his duty. “[T]he action takes right off and doesn’t let up,” noted Mobley on the online RT Book Reviews.
The third installment, The Doctor’s Defender, sees another protection specialist, Kyle Martin, hired to be bodyguard to Dr. Brenda Storm, who is being sued and fears for her life. Kyle is attracted to her but leery of relationships until it is evident that professional killers are after Brenda. “The suspense is appropriately paced, and the killer’s identity will keep readers guessing,” noted McKee on the RT Book Reviews Web site. In the fourth series installment, The Cowboy Target, rancher Wyatt Monroe finds his foreman, George Herman, dead and figures somebody is trying to frame him for the death, just as he was accused of murdering his wife. Jackie Blain is a bodyguard and former police officer hired to prove his innocence in this “fast-paced … enjoyable read,” according to McKee, writing again for the online RT Book Reviews.
"NORTHERN BORDER PATROL" SERIES
Danger at the Border starts the “Northern Border Patrol” series. This novel focuses on a poison that is threatening habitat and humans along the U.S.-Canadian border. Biologist Dr. Tessa Cleary and border patrol agent Jeff Steele are investigating and soon are kidnapped, bringing them into danger and a special sort of closeness. “As the danger increases, the reader is pulled further into the story,” commented online RT Book Reviews contributor McKee. In Joint Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent Samantha Bennett is tracking a serial killer known as the Birdman when Drew Kelley of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police saves her life. Now they work together to stop Birdman before he can strike again. “This tale is filled with twists and turns, explosions, murders and just a bit of romance,” noted McKee on the RT Book Reviews Web site.
Murder under the Mistletoe sees Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) agent Tyler Griffin trying to stop a drug smuggling cartel from getting drugs into Canada through the Christmas tree farm of Heather Larson-Randall. Heather feels Tyler is responsible in a way for the death of her brother, but finally they work together to break the drug gang. “Fast-paced action keeps readers on the edge of their seats,” observed online RT Book Reviews contributor McKee. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Blake Fallon is on the track of illegal smugglers in Ransom when he and Liz Cantrell meet one another. Liz is trying to get her sister, who is held hostage in Canada, freed, and the two cases dovetail in this story with “great development of both the hero and heroine,” according to McKee, writing again for the online RT Book Reviews.
A Family under the Christmas Tree
Reed is also the author of stand-alone novels, including A Family under the Christmas Tree, a holiday-themed novel about two unlikely people learning how to open their hearts to love and to one another. Sophie Griffith is a photographer visiting her grandmother in Washington state for the holidays. Once there, she figures that her grandmother has tricked her, wanting to introduce her to a new neighbor, handsome techie David Murphy, who is the guardian of his nephew, Troy. Sophie likes these two but also makes it known she is serious about her career and will soon be leaving. David, for his part, is also a bit afraid of love and commitment, still saddened by the sudden deaths of his brother and sister-in-law. Though both Sophie and David try to fight it, their mutual attraction soon wins out.
A Publishers Weekly reviewer had praise for A Family under the Christmas Tree, calling it a “sweet inspirational story filled with love and the promise for a brighter future.” Similarly, online RT Book Reviews critic Parcel termed the tale “[p]redictable, but still endearing overall.”

Q&A with Terri Reed, GUARDIAN
Michelle Bowles April 14, 2017
Was it different to write about a K-9 in the plot vs people?
Writing stories with dogs is both a challenge and a delight. I love dogs and find them fascinating creatures. Dogs have their own personality, just like people. Making them a character in the story without overshadowing the humans can be tricky. I like to show the bond between humans and canines, especially the special relationship of a K-9 dog and the police handler. They must rely on each other, trust each other and constantly train in order for the working relationship to function properly.
How do you choose your characters’ names?
Sometimes the names come to me easily while other times I have to search for the right name depending on the characters personality, background and temperament. I have a reference book titled Names Through the Ages that I use quite often when looking for a name. I like to know where the name originated and the meaning of the name. I try to incorporate something in the characters to reflect the meaning or origin of the name.
Do you have any traditions you enjoy during Spring?
Here in Oregon we have The Wooden Shoe Tulip Fest during the spring months. It’s a wonderful sight to see the fields of colorful tulips swaying in the gentle breeze or sunlight reflecting off raindrops. The festival is a family affair with a children’s play area, hay wagon rides through the fields, and local food vendors providing delicious fare. Even dogs are welcome. It’s a wonderful place to create family memories. http://www.woodenshoe.com
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I’ve been making up stories for as long as I can remember. I would act out my stories for my grandparents when I was a kid. In junior high I had an English teacher who really sparked my interest in one day becoming an author. He made believe that my stories were worth telling. In college, my creative writing professor also encouraged me to pursue writing. However, fear kept me from taking the leap of faith for many years but I’m so glad I finally gathered enough courage to try.
How long does it take you to write a book?
I like to have 3 to 4 months to complete a book. Sometimes it takes longer or shorter depending on my deadlines and what is going on in my personal life.
What makes writing in the contemporary romance genre unique?
Writing the contemporary story requires a delicate balance of grounding the reader in the world of today yet not dating the book so that readers who find the book a few years later don’t feel like the story is outdated.
How many books have you written?
I’ve written over forty books in the span of fourteen years. Do you have a favorite? My second book, A Sheltering Love for Love Inspired, will always hold a special place in my heart. It was a Romance Writers of America RITA finalist and the heroine in this story is closer to who I am than most of my other stories.
What book are you reading right now?
I’m reading a Harlequin Romantic Suspense by one of my favorite authors. Operation Alpha by Justine Davis, is book eight in the Cutter’s Code series. Cutter is an uncannily brilliant dog who not only knows when someone is in trouble, but he plays matchmaker amid well-done suspense plots. I’ve enjoyed all the books in the series and have read every book Justine Davis has written.
What are your current projects?
I’m working on a couple of stories right now. Book 1 of the 2018 K-9 continuity series for Love Inspired Suspense. This series will be set on a fictional Air Force base and feature Military Working Dogs. I also just turned in the proposal for book 1 of my own new series for Love Inspired Suspense.
What advice do you have for writers?
Keep writing through the ups and downs of life. Be flexible, teachable and believe in your work.

A Family Under the Christmas Tree
Terri Reed. Howard, $14.99 trade paper (288p) ISBN 978-1-5011-4474-5
Reed captures the magic of the Christmas season as an artist and a techie must decide whether to open up their fragile hearts and take a chance at love. Photographer Sophie Griffith agreed to visit her grandmother's home in Bellevue, Wash., after learning that her grandmother had fallen and hurt her ankle. Sophie suspects that her grandmother lured her there to set her up with a hunky new neighbor, David Murphy, an IT company owner who is the guardian for his young nephew, Troy. As Sophie spends time in David and Troy's company, she learns to care for both of them, but she makes it clear that her career comes first and she will be leaving shortly after New Year's. David is equally afraid of love, as he is still reeling from the deaths of his brother and sister-in-law. But the lure of their mutual attraction is very strong, and as much as David and Sophie fight it, neither can deny that the possibility of being together may be stronger than any of their carefully laid career plans. Christmas trees form the perfect backdrop for this sweet inspirational story filled with love and the promise for a brighter future. Agent: Jessica Alvarez, BookEnds Literary. (Oct.)

Author(s): Terri Reed
Reed's latest is a sweet, romantic holiday tale. There's not a huge amount of depth as the story mostly stays on the surface. The love story is cute and perfect for a lighthearted read during the Christmas season. It takes a while for the tale to find its footing, but once the characters get to a bit of self-discovery things move a little more quickly. Predictable, but still endearing overall.
Sophie Griffith travels the world as a photojournalist, but the only place she has ever felt at home was with her grandmother in Washington state. Sophie goes to help her injured grandmother during the Christmas season and meets her grandmother's neighbors. David Murphy is a computer genius who has unexpectedly become the guardian of his six-year-old nephew Troy upon the death of Troy's parents. Sophie and David bond over Troy and Troy's love for Sophie's grandmother's dog. As the season progresses, they grow closer and must overcome their fears to give themselves over to love. COVERT PURSUIT (3) by Terri Reed: After the death of his friend and partner during an attempt to bring down illegal arms dealer Felix Picard, special agent Jason Buchett is resolved to finish the job. Working undercover on Loribel Island, Fla., he meets vacationing homicide detective Angie Carlucci when she tries to discover who was apparently dumping a body in the Gulf. Any attempts to discourage Angie from investigating only arouse her interest more and soon she's working with Jason and her FBI agent brother to discover Picard's alias and bring him to justice. This heroine is a bit irritating at first, but her developing relationship with the hero as they both work to see justice done is entertaining to read.

MY LOOK:
Julie Frost gains a chance for promotion, from production assistant to on camera personality, if her interview with her former high school crush goes well. Dressed in stylish not sensible clothing, Julie was half-frozen talking with a television audience while waiting for the final event that would choose the Olympic team for the Freestyle Aerial Ski Jumping set. However, the man who was about to take to the air was the local favorite and her school days distraction. Although she was filled with excitement, she knew this man had never noticed her before and would be off to bigger and better things afterward. It was key to keep herself guarded, professional, and detached during this promotional interview.
She watched him take to the air, but something just seemed off. Soon, his ski was gone, and he was going down. It was hard to remember to be a reporter as she raced to see if he was alive. How could his parents lose both children to ski accidents?
Nick Walsh felt the adrenaline rush many times over, but he also knew someone wanted him dead. With this hard landing, someone could get his or her wish. The air whooshed out of him, and his head felt almost disconnected, when a rush of people came to him.
The vision in pink he knew from years gone by. Why was Jules here?
Of course, his manager was thrilled he wasn’t dead like Cody, but this close one only heaped more guilt on Nick over his brother’s death. Had he not made that last jump trying to imitate him, his brother would still be here to go for the gold. Everybody had expected it would be brother verses brother going for the gold. However, it would be brother going for his brother, now. And it was somebody’s desire to stop him.
He didn’t consider the woman in pink his enemy until he found out she was a reporter. Those people are breeds that watch their ratings go up as their lens focused on bringing someone down. Even the dead was not protected from their subterfuge. The rumor mill churned with charges of made-up drug abuse to sully his brother’s reputation. It didn’t matter how beautiful this woman was; she wasn’t going to use him or his brother to get ratings. However, his sponsor put together this interview, and he would have to tread slowly.
He hadn’t planned to tell her about the death threats or the actual attempts on his life, but he didn’t have to. The person doing this has thrown her into the crosshairs with him.
MY TAKE:
Terri Reed’s TREACHEROUS SLOPES starts off with the Olympic adrenaline rush, keys up the suspense, and creates romance in the process!
This heroine is not only a reporter but does a great job at amateur sleuthing too. I could see her staring in her own series with a town of tourists for victims discovered by the roving reporter. She’s caring, considerate, and is just trying to make it on her own as a reporter with vision and scruples. Julie Frost lost her mother and understands grief, but she seems to be getting along better with her stepfather who now wants a family more than a career.
Inside Nick Walsh, you’ll find a hurting man who blames himself for his brother’s death and projects his guilt onto his mother and father. He’s a believer who has lost his way but being back home has him face the truth about himself, his family, and his faith. His reason for going for the gold isn’t what it once was, and he is realizing that where he is at isn’t where he should be. However, he needs to finish this Olympic walk for Cody, and not even a murderer is going to change his path. However, his walk easily intersects with what he wants his future to become.
TREACHEROUS SLOPES by Terri Reed is a suspense filled standalone title that will have you head to the summer Olympics reading more books by this author such as the COWBOY TARGET (Love Inspired Suspense 2013) and THE DOCTOR’S DEFENDER (Love Inspired Suspense 2012) just to name a few!

The Texas K9 series about police dog handlers continues with Narcotics Detective Parker Adams and his beagle Sherlock in Sagebrush, Texas. They come to support Detective Melody Zachary when the youth centre where she volunteers has a break-in. Melody works cold cases so she isn't well acquainted with the dog handler. The centre also has a strict no-drugs policy. Eyeing the damage, Parker says that he's going to let Sherlock sniff around...
Sagebrush is under siege from escalating crime in the linked series by different authors, and in SCENT OF DANGER we see how the whole community suffers, when not just drug dealers but young people are dying. Both the detectives have lost family members. Finding common ground helps them to work together, but a cocaine stash in the well-equipped centre is bringing their accord to a halt. Melody is not a dog person, but she appreciates the cleverness and training of the little beagle. Parker however believes that work and romance don't mix. And if he's shutting down the centre, Melody will lose sources of information about her cold cases. Then Melody herself comes under threat, and Parker appoints himself her guard....
Terri Reid has given us a fine addition to the series, including enough detail about the working dog to please dog lovers without losing sight of the fact that SCENT OF DANGER is a crime novel. The overtones are serious and we understand that fighting the spread of drugs is an ongoing battle. However a town social event brings out the elegance of the female police officers and spurs on romance. There is a good sense of place with the Texas town coming to life. Some of the other series characters such as Detective Salgado reappear, and there are references to other cases, but Reid's SCENT OF DANGER can be read as a standalone. If you do though, you'll be rushing out to get the rest of the Texas K9 books. They're a great read.

Book Review – Terri Reed’s “The Doctor’s Defender (Protection Specialists)”
The Doctor's Defender 2Looking for a rollicking good inspirational romantic suspense read? Look no further… In author Terri Reed’s “The Doctor’s Defender (Protection Specialists),” Dr. Brenda Storm, a general surgeon at fictional Heritage Hospital in Chicago, and Kyle Martin, a bodyguard with Boston’s elite Trent Associates protection specialists, are thrown together when a brutal unknown assailant launches a vicious, all-out attack on the beautiful doctor’s life. When the bodies of innocent bystanders–Brenda’s unwitting hospital co-workers–begin to pile up, Kyle, a former Navy Seal, springs into action–determined to protect Dr. Storm both from the killer and herself.
Brenda’s committed to standing her ground. Her patients need her, the hospital is her life, and she can’t fathom deserting either. Kyle soon becomes adamant that Brenda needs to distance herself from her normal routine if he’s going to keep her safe. And you guessed it: That’s when the sparks begin to fly.
Though frightened, Brenda’s no pushover. Kyle’s definitely got his work cut out for him in the face of the surgeon’s stubborn resolve to maintain some semblance of life as usual. When the killer’s assaults strike closer to home, however, Brenda has a decision to make: Continue to endanger the lives of those whom she holds most dear, or trust Kyle to shield her from harm on the roller coaster run of a lifetime.
Terri Reed displays an uncanny ability to reveal the inner thoughts, motivations and sensory experiences of her male and female protagonists. We learn a lot about Brenda’s and Kyle’s pasts, their strengths and weaknesses, and their spiritual and emotional challenges as we follow them on their journey toward the truth, toward fulfillment, and toward love. It never feels, though, as if the author is piling on what she shares just for the sake of creating believable “back story” for the characters. The key revelations are made in a timely, natural manner and never at the sacrifice of an engaging plot or a compelling, readable pace.
I highly recommend “The Doctor’s Defender” to fans of contemporary inspirational romance and of the romantic suspense genre in particular. You won’t be disappointed.
So, tell me.. Are you a fan of Terri Reed’s, of the Protection Specialists series, or of the Love Inspired Suspense line in general? Even if you’re simply a fan of inspirational romantic suspense novels overall, please feel free to leave a comment below. Blessings!

Giving Thanks for Baby by Terri Reed
This is the story of Trista Van Zandt who moves to Chestnut Grove after divorcing her husband. This is a fresh start for the family. She has her brother Ross and his wife Kelly for support and help with her baby. She picks up work as a paralegal at a law firm in town. Her brother Ross is a private investigator and also runs the adoption agency called Tiny Blessings. He runs the business with his wife Kelly who is expecting their first child. While Trista has all this support she doesn't have any friends for support and seeks solace in the kingdom room. A chat room developed by the minister's wife in town.
Then there is Scott Crosby the Assistant Pastor of Chestnut Grove church. He has a heart to serve the people of Chestnut Grove. He is nursing a broken heart from breaking up with his last girlfriend. Scott doesn't believe a woman can accept him for being a pastor. Naomi the Pastor's wife unknowingly signs Pastor Scott up for the kingdom room. Scott sees the e-mails and decides to participate in the kingdom room. He tentatively joins and finds there are other ways to minister to the people of Chestnut Grove. He might meet someone special in the kingdom room.
Perception is the focus of the book. We never know who we might meet. Sometimes how our words and actions affect other people. Terri Reed wrote some very interesting characters. I would also suggest checking out future installments of the Tiny Blessing series.

Duty Bound Guardian by Terri Reed | Book Review by Loraine Nunley
Synopsis from back of book:
When a priceless artifact is stolen, museum curator Lana Gomez becomes the prime suspect. How can she hope to adopt her orphaned nephew if she’s a person of interest in a crime? Cooperating with Capital K-9 Unit officer Adam Donovan doesn’t get her very far — the handsome cop thinks she’s hiding something. But when the real thief returns set on silencing Lana, it is Adam and his Doberman pinscher, Ace, who become her only defense against a madman who wants nothing more than to see Lana eliminated.
My review:
This was a quick suspenseful read. It definitely kept me reading to find out who was after Lana. I loved the look into a K-9 Unit. I thought that the author did a great job capturing the intensity with which these dogs and their partners work on their cases.
I also enjoyed Adam and Lana’s story, even though I did think the ending was a little rushed for the stage of their relationship. I could definitely see them getting together, but not as quickly as they did.
A problem that I had with the story was that it is the second in a series where a crime is being solved throughout. There were times when I knew I was being given clues but, without having read the first book in the series, I felt a little lost. I wished I had read the other book first.
What I enjoyed most about this book: Adam’s integrity. Ace, Adam’s canine partner. Lana’s determination to do what was right for her nephew.
What I didn’t like about this book: Too many questions because I didn’t read the first book in the series to see the initial set-up of people. This is why I have a tendency to wait until I have a whole series and read them all in order.
My rating: 3 1/2 out of 5 stars
Would I recommend this book to others? Yes. It was suspenseful with romantic tension and it was a good story about the K-9 unit. It is the second book in the series and, while Lana and Adam’s story was standalone, the mystery being solved was not so be prepared to read the rest of the books in the series if you want to see it solved.
Note: I received this book in a giveaway. I was not required to give a positive review. All of the opinions I express here are my own.
Review: Undercover Marriage by Terri Reed
Posted on August 9, 2014 by Brittany
19302546 This is the final book in the Witness Protection continuity series. Each book is written by a different author, but with a common theme and some common characters in each book. These books are focused on uncovering an illegal baby smuggling ring and can be read separately but truly flow when read in order. That being said, I own all of the books in the series, but have had to read them out of order! I still have a couple that I need to read and review. I will hopefully be getting to those within the next couple of months. I skipped to this last book, Undercover Marriage, because I needed to read a book for my Goodreads Book Scattergories game that had a main female character with the letter “S”. Serena Summers fit that category nicely – one point for each name. But now, on to my review:
I enjoyed Undercover Marriage. Serena and Josh are likeable characters who feel a lot of strain between them, because Serena blames Josh for the death of her brother, Daniel. Now, Serena and Josh are partners in the U.S. Marshalls and must go undercover as a married couple. I was a little frustrated with Serena early in the book being so unwilling to forgive Josh for so long, but I do recognize that it was necessary in order to make her “wake up” to the reality that God does not want her to be unforgiving toward others. Likewise, Josh has to grow in his understanding of God through this book and learn to let go of the guilt he feels. Watching these two begin to realize that they have feelings for each other, while pretending to be married, was fun. There was a lot of good tension between these two characters. Undercover Marriage was a nice story and tied up the series well.

Book Review:
Dr. Tessa Cleary is called to investigate the sudden and very mysterious death of fishes and the respiratory problems faced by people living near the border between US and Canada. What starts as a simple investigation soon turns deadly when Tessa is fired at by unknown people and forced to run for her life. Running with the border patrol agent Jeff Steele, now it is a chase of survival for her and Jeff.
Who are these people?
What is the source of the contamination in the river causing all these problems?
How will Tessa and Jeff save themselves and will they be able to get to the root of the mystery?
Running for their lives and also from their own demons, Jeff and Tessa are so not prepared to feel the pull of attraction and protectiveness towards each other!
Firstly, I loved the cover of the book. The whole forest background called me to pick up the book and my decision to read it was sealed after checking out the blurb which instantly intrigues the reader.
Danger at the Border takes us to the area between the borders of US and Canada. With lush greenery, sweet scented air and away from the chaos of the city, this is a perfect place to relax but amidst this peace there is something dark and scary lurking which now threatens the peace and livelihood of the people living here.
I loved the chase and the thrill of trying to survive while threatened by the dangerous animals and even more dangerous unknown people. The plot is well conceived and executed. Terri has done her research which shows in her planning and execution of the story. She admirably develops characters that don't look artificial and are able to convince the readers of their authenticity. The settings are so beautifully sketched that I could visualize myself in a place like the one in the book and could feel each and every shift in the atmosphere in the forest!
I loved the characterization. Jeff and Tessa are both very strong characters who are able to withstand all the difficulties and fulfill their duty towards their country. The chemistry between them is sweet, heartfelt and touching. I could feel and relate to their doubts, concerns and denial towards their feelings for each other. Tessa is a young woman in a job that is supposed to be a man's field. Often doubted, she has much to prove to herself and others. Jeff is committed to his country and while doubtful at first of Tessa's qualification for the job, soon he is left admiring her strength, dedication and her knowledge of her work. There journey of survival and also the strengthening and reawakening of their faith in God is expertly portrayed by the author. The other characters are also very admirably sketched and developed. The villains are successful in giving the reader a chill and make him want to do whatever necessary to escape. The wild forest also has a character of its own in the book which adds more depth and feel to the whole experience.
Terri's writing style is simple and captivating. She creates characters, places and events with ease and builds a colorful picture in the minds of the readers. Preaching the benevolence of God, she tries of strengthen and reawaken the faith of the readers in God and his help that is always given to everyone when in need!
"Our soul waits for the Lord: He is our help and our shield."
The story is fast paced with enough drama, action, thrill, romance and excitement to keep the reader engrossed till the end. I enjoyed reading the book and give Danger at the Border 4.5 out of 5. Recommended to everyone, I look forward to reading the next books in the series.
I received an ARC from the publishers, Mills & Boon Love Inspired and NetGalley and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

When a fellow FBI agent is kidnapped and a protected witness vanishes, Leo Gallagher will stop at nothing to find them both.
So when he discovers a link between the case and a single mother in Wyoming, Leo and his trusty K-9 partner rush to question Alicia Duncan.
Could she be the key to locating the missing persons? Not if a killer has anything to say about it. Someone is determined to keep Alicia from talking, so Leo and his chocolate Lab must keep her and her little boy safe on their family ranch.
With danger lurking around every corner, Leo must work overtime to not lose another person who’s important to him.

“He didn’t want her gratitude; he wanted her love but had no right to ask for it.”
What a great start to this newest continuity series from Love Inspired Suspense. Romance, great characters, nail-biting action and suspense… oh, and Zuzu won’t let me forget to mention – DOGS!
Heroic dogs at that. Zuzu is all a-swoon.
She’s also already claimed Opal as her new favorite heroine and is looking forward to discussing everything they have in common. I did feel obligated to point out that, other than their shared boxer characteristics (white chest and the white-socked paws), they really aren’t all that similar. Opal does police dog stuff and Zuzu… well, she’s good at being cute and sleeping 😀
Anyway… back to Guardian. Leo and True make a fantastic team – and Alicia’s heart won’t be the only one racing when you see them in action! I loved the insight into their training, their work, and their partnership, particularly in regards to True’s skill of finding bodies underwater and what they do when bullets start flying. (Zuzu had to cover her eyes with her paw a couple of times when the suspense got too much for her 😉 )
Alicia, Charlie, and her dad are also great characters – people you feel you could easily befriend for life. Alicia’s bravery is just one of the reasons you’ll fall in love with her as quickly as Leo does. Her warmth and sincerity are more marks in her favor!
Probably my favorite thing about the book (besides the romance…. because, well, duh.) is the continuing story arc that will carry on through all the books in the series. The immediate story line that begins with Alicia witnessing the aftermath of a murder does reach a conclusion but the plot elements that tie the whole series together will be ongoing. And I gotta say – in this series – I am dying (perhaps not the best choice of words) to see how it all plays out.
Bottom Line: Guardian by Terri Reed will keep you on the edge of your favorite reading chair! Danger, action, suspense – it has it all. A sweet romance and a close-knit team round out the mix and add to the emotional depth overall. Additionally, an intriguing subplot that will continue through the rest of the series grabs your attention and has you eagerly waiting for the next book!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.)
My Rating: 4 stars / Love it!
KissingBook Level: 3 / Will forget to breathe on occasion

Terri: I love to listen to music while writing. I have an eclectic taste in music and like songs that evoke emotion or a rhythm for my words, even if the lyrics don’t match the story I’m writing.
Aftermath by Rascal Flatts
I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me
Lessons Learned by Carrie Underwood
Grace Tells Another Story by Mercy Me
It Happens All The Time by Megan Hilty
Just You n’ Me by Chicago
My Destiny by Katharine McPhee
Daylight by Maroon 5
Finally Home by Mercy Me
Carrie: Love seeing MercyMe on that list! And, as a bonus for y’all, Terri builds off the Carrie Underwood song on her playlist and tells us some lessons learned in Guardian!
Terri: One of the love lessons in Guardian was to take a risk on love. Both Leo and Alicia had past wounds that caused them to protect their hearts. I think most people have experienced hurt feelings which makes being vulnerable difficult. It’s so easy to guard ourselves and keep people at an emotional distance. But opening our hearts and inviting someone in is so much harder and takes bone deep courage. That is what my characters had to learn and a lesson I’ve had to learn in my own life.
