SIDELIGHTS

Hope Ramsay has written a series of bestselling contemporary romance stories, including “Last Chance” and “Chapel of Love.” She grew up on Long Island and spent time with relatives in South Carolina, experiences which feature in her stories. She currently lives in Fairfax, Virginia. Ramsay has worked at various jobs, including as a Congressional aide, a lobbyist, a public relations consultant, and a meeting planner. She is a member of the Ruby Slippered Sisterhood and writes blogs about storytelling, writing, and plotting.

Welcome to Last Chance and Small Town Christmas

Ramsay’s 2011 Welcome to Last Chance introduces the small town of Last Chance, South Carolina, filled with interesting characters and love lost and found. In the opener, the narrator of a beauty salon tells the story of how her son, Clay Rhodes, met up with a runaway girl named Wanda Jane Coblentz. Clay left his country western band and has been melancholy and directionless ever since. With only five dollars in her pocket, Wanda Jane hooks up with Clay for a warm place to sleep. But he catches her stealing from his wallet and sees that the name on her ID is Mary Smith. Rather than get mad, he actually helps her make a new and better start in life. Writing in Publishers Weekly, a reviewer said that Ramsay “strikes an excellent balance between tension and humor as she spins a fine yarn.”

Small Town Christmas, published in 2011, collects three holiday stories by Ramsay along with Jill Shalvis and Katie Lane. Ramsay’s “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” story follows ex-Army sergeant Matt Jasper coming home with a calico cat named Holly, a gift to the family of a fallen comrade. Local matchmaker, Annie Roberts, sees Holly as the perfect icebreaker to bring love to the lonely during the holidays. Calling Ramsay’s story sweetly poignant, Kristen Ramsdell commented in Library Journal: “ The stories will appeal to new readers as well and may just tempt them to make return visits.”

Last Chance Book Club and Inn at Last Chance

In the fifth book of the series, Last Chance Book Club, recently divorced Savannah White moves with her twelve-year-old son Todd from Baltimore to Last Chance, where she spent childhood summers. She hopes the idyllic town, away from her prying ex-mother-in-law, will provide a fresh start after her painful divorce. She’s even trying to revive the old theater house in town and joins the local book club to meet new friends. She didn’t expect to see former baseball pro Dash Randall, her childhood nemesis, whom she pegged as no good. In return, he always thought she was too much of a bratty princess. As they encounter each other more and more in town, they come to revise those sentiments. This “story graced with abundant Southern charm and quirky, caring people,” is another welcome chapter in Ramsay’s funny, hope-filled series, according to Library Journal reviewer Kristin Ramsdell.

In 2014, Ramsay published the seventh installment, Inn at Last Chance, which finds spinster Jenny Carpenter winning the pie-baking contest and converting the town’s derelict haunted mansion into a bed and breakfast. When the mansion’s owner, horror writer Gabriel Raintree, shows up at the door, she’s as surprised as he is. He intended to settle in the old house to be inspired to write another scary book. He also has the ghost of his brother, Luke, to contend with. While the town wants to match Jenny with Pastor Tim, she has her sights on Gabriel. Ramsay provides a “surprisingly successful haunted house tale, exploring dark themes about the past interfering with the present,” according to a reviewer in Publishers Weekly.

Last Chance Family

Ramsay’s 2014 Last Chance Family returns to the Southern town of Last Chance. Las Vegas high roller and day trader Mike Taggart has just been named guardian of his five-year-old niece, Rainbow, after the death of his sister. Not the fathering type, he travels to Last Chance in hopes of convincing his half-brother and preacher Timmy to take the girl in. He hasn’t seen Timmy since they were young children when their father walked out on them. When Rainbow’s cat becomes sick, Mike finds romance with veterinarian Charlene Polk. But Charlene has a habit of falling for the wrong men.

Writing in Library Journal, Kristin Ramsdell said the engaging series “pairs emotionally wounded protagonists with a resilient, adorable moppet” and with a town full of caring folk. On the Novel Reactions Website, a reviewer noted: “The novel is a great story of people trying to overcome past mistakes to become better than their parents but Charlene was a bit too wishy-washy.” However, the reviewer praised the story for its message of overcoming your past, letting others into your heart, and learning from your mistakes.

A Christmas Bride and A Small-Town Bride

Initiating her “Chapel of Love” series, Ramsay published A Christmas Bride in 2016. Set in the town of Shenandoah Falls, the story follows Willow Peterson as she returns home after the death of a dear friend, Shelly, so she can restore Eagle Hill Manor. When it’s ready, she’ll host a Christmas wedding. Unfortunately, Shelly’s widower, David Lyndon, an aspiring Congressman, is not only grieving but is also a Scrooge who needs a lot of convincing to allow Willow to work on the house. “Ramsay nails the political dynamics and small-town vibe and launches an endearing series fans will savor,” said Kristin Ramsdell in Library Journal.

Ramsay published A Small-Town Bride in the “Chapel of Love” series in 2017. Amy Lyndon is the underperforming daughter in a rich family full of Ivy Leaguers and power brokers. She always tried to fit in and be accepted in the family, but when her father expects her to marry a hedge fund manager she doesn’t love, she decides to live her own life. Cut off from the family fortune, she gets the only job she can find, a landscaper for handsome hunk Dusty McNeil. At first Dusty is surprised she wants to get her hands dirty, but then he sees how determined and strong she can really be. “Ramsey wins readers’ hearts with likable characters, an engaging plot (and a hilarious subplot),” as well as a happy ending, noted a writer in Publishers Weekly. In a review in BookPage, a contributor said: “the best of intentions evaporate in this fun, charming frolic of a story.”

Hope Ramsay, whose contemporary romance A Small-Town Bride (Chapel of Love series) is new today, joins us to answer some rapid-fire questions.

    About A Small-Town Bride:

Amy Lyndon is tired of being the Poor Little Rich Girl of Shenandoah Falls. In her prominent family, she’s the ordinary one – no Ivy League education and no powerful career. But when her father tries to marry her off, she knows it’s finally time to stand up for herself, despite the consequences. Now that she’s cut off from the family fortune, her first challenge is to fight her attraction to her handsome new boss.

When Amy shows up looking for work with his landscaping crew, Dusty McNeil thinks there’s no way such a pampered princess will ever get her hands dirty. But as Amy proves him wrong and gets down to the nitty gritty, Dusty’s admiration turns to like, then lust – and then love. But can a high-society woman like Amy ever fall for a man like him?

    Let’s get Down & Dirty …

Guilty pleasure? Lying around in my pajamas for the whole day watching old movies on Turner Classic Movie channel.

Favorite ice cream? Coffee Ice Cream is my particular fave. And any ice cream that comes from the Lakeside Creamery at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. Honestly, if you’re ever in Garrett County during the months of April-August, it’s worth making a pilgrimage. The homemade waffle cones are amazing.

What’s in your coffee/tea? Milk and sugar in my coffee, honey in my tea.

First celebrity crush? Richard Chamberlain, who was a heart throb in the early 1960s. I realize this makes me older than dirt. Also, does anyone still remember Dr. Kildare?

Favorite thing a reader has said/done? I had a reader, a cancer survivor, introduce me to the Hatbox Foundation, a non-profit that collects hand-knitted hats for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Now, whenever my stash of leftover yarn threatens to overwhelm my closet, I get out the needles and knit a bunch of hats. It’s a wonderful cause and a fabulous way to use leftover yarn.

    Last picture you took?

    Daisy has a snow mustache.

Least favorite food? Lamb. I don’t like lamb chops, leg of lamb, lamb stew or shepherd’s pie. If it’s got lamb in it, I’m running the other way.

Favorite junk food? You are kidding, right? I have to choose a favorite? No way. Although I will admit to a particular fondness for black licorice.

Last movie you saw in a movie theater? The dear husband took me to see Logan on my birthday, which was the day the movie was released. I can’t say anything more for fear of spoiling it for others. But suffice it to say that I love Wolverine for a number of reasons. I have a weakness for brooding Gothic heroes. He’s played by Hugh Jackman … . And I’m an alumna of the University of Michigan.

Last person you texted/e-mailed? My editor. I’m in the middle of revisions.

Favorite cookie? This is another trick question, right? Like I could actually choose between Thin Mints and Samoas. I will not divulge the number of boxes of Girl Scout cookies I bought this year. It would be embarrassing.

What did you want to be when you grew up? I know this is going to sound stupid, but I wanted to be a writer. I came to this conclusion early on in second grade when I wrote a long paper about the pilgrims in which I described all of the trials and tribulations of their long sea voyage in graphic detail. I knew right then that I wanted to tell stories.

What TV show must you absolutely see, no matter what? Right now it’s Madam Secretary. But when the baseball season starts, I will be watching the games. Huge Washington Nationals fan here.

What TV show do you miss that’s been canceled? I was so disappointed when Limitless was canceled. It was my favorite show of the 2015-16 season.

Last TV show you binge-watched? The Crown, which I loved.

Favorite TV show when you were a kid? I think I already mentioned Dr. Kildare.

I’m really good at … playing guitar.

I’m really bad at … playing tennis.

I don’t know how to use … my husband’s radial saw.

I feel … tired right now because I’m in the middle of major book revisions.

I have a weird neighbor who … never appears to leave his house. What’s he doing in there, anyway?

My best friends tease me incessantly about … how much I talk.

I fear I’d act like a total idiot if I ever met … Ryan Zimmerman, the Nationals’ first baseman.

For the heroes in my books, I often picture … my husband, who is the quintessential Southern gentleman.

I sure wish someone would ask me about … my new puppy, Daisy.

Ramsay's third Chapel of Love contemporary (after A Small-Town Bride) is a satisfying tale of finding love by finding
oneself. Laurie Wilson, a professor at a small college in Shenandoah Falls, a Washington, D.C., suburb, is stunned when
her boyfriend of five years, Brandon Kopp,-leaves her at the altar. Laurie is quickly ushered out of the church by
handsome lawyer Andrew Lyndon, Brandon's best friend. Laurie's father is Andrew's boss, and he insists that Andrew
get Brandon and Laurie back together. Trouble is, Andrew doesn't want to--he falls for her, too. Sweet, loyal Andrew
helps Laurie to realize that she subjugated her own desires in favor of Brandon's desires, including turning down the job
offers she received from more prestigious universities. He shows Laurie that Brandon's refusal to marry her was the best
gift of her life. The usual problems ensue--ex-lovers showing up, a hunky Marine turned small-town cop who might
steal the heroine's heart, manipulative relatives--but Ramsay ably navigates the shoals of predictable plot machinations
to deliver appealing primary and secondary characters (particularly Laurie's group of girlfriends). This is a well-paced,
expertly characterized, and fun story. (Sept.)

A Small-Town Bride

(336p) ISBN 978-1-4555-6484-2
Ramsey (A Christmas Bride) charms in her second Chapel of Love contemporary, set in tiny Shenandoah Falls, Va.
Wealthy Amy Lyndon spends her days shopping until her overbearing father kicks her out of the house for refusing to
marry Grady, the rich hedge-fund manager he's picked out as her groom. Rather than wed a man she doesn't love, Amy
opts to leave home and takes the only job she can find: joining the landscaping crew at a local wedding venue. Her new
boss, Dusty McNeil, is the proverbial kid from the wrong side of the tracks made good, and he can't see why a
pampered rich woman would try or could succeed at a job so seemingly beneath her. As their mutual attraction grows,
Dusty realizes that the woman he's written off has a backbone of steel and a generous heart, but her father's
machinations may doom their romance before it's even begun. Some of the story is a bit contrived (particularly Amy's
exile from the family mansion), but Ramsey wins readers' hearts with likable characters, an engaging plot (and a
hilarious subplot), and a well-deserved happy ending. Agent: Elaine P. English. (Apr.)

In the second installment of Hope Ramsay's Chapel of Love series, A Small-Town Bride (Forever, $7.99, 336 pages,
ISBN 9781455564842), Amy Lyndon's father kicks her out and cuts up her credit cards when she refuses her familyapproved
groom. Trying to stand on her own feet for the first time, Amy gets a job on the landscape crew at a local
Virginia resort. Nobody expects much from her, including her boss, Dusty McNeil, aka the "Casanova of Shenandoah
Falls." But Amy finds pleasure in her work, in standing up to her family and in a flirtation with Dusty. Entrenched
bachelor Dusty can't help but admire Amy's attitude and work ethic, but he knows the high-society girl is above his
touch--until she isn't. Still, he tries to keep the relationship casual, aware he's not marriage material and that her
extended and interfering family would never approve of a forever for the two of them. Yet some desires cannot be
denied, and the best of intentions evaporate in this fun, charming frolic of a story.
A DUKE OF HER OWN
Determined to fulfill her father's bequest, an heiress confronts a recalcitrant duke in Karen Ranney's Victorian-era
romance, The English Duke (Avon, $7.99, 384 pages, ISBN 9780062466891), the second novel in the Duke series.
Following the death of her father, a brilliant inventor, Martha York travels to the home of Jordan Hamilton, the new
Duke of Roth and her father's protege, to deliver her father's notes and the prototype of his torpedo ship. But Jordan's
pride dictates that he develop such a device on his own. Still, he finds Martha beautiful in body and mind, and when he
reluctantly asks for her advice, he's even more impressed. But there is more than one snake in their garden.
While the pair is falling in love, schemers work to change the course of their future. They must put a stop to these
maneuvers and place their happiness first in order to win the game of love.
TOP PICK IN ROMANCE
An extraordinary romance is found within the pages of Alyssa Cole's An Extraordinary Union (Kensington, $15, 320
pages, ISBN 9781496707444), as well as unforgettable insight into the struggles and pain of the Civil War era. Elle
Burns, a former slave with an eidetic memory, uses this trait as a spy for the Loyal League, a society determined to
destroy the Confederacy. Installed as a slave in the household of a Virginia senator in the course of her undercover
work, she meets Rebel soldier Malcolm McCall, who is actually a Pinkerton detective tasked with funneling
information to the newly established Secret Service. Though their interests are aligned and trading secrets will help
them both, Elle is wary of the Scotsman turned American. Malcolm, though, is instantly attracted to Elle's intelligence,
bravery and beauty. As they work together, facing danger after danger, she begins to trust him, and they both fall in
love. Will they survive to help their cause and find happiness together? The historically accurate language, attitudes and
risks add tension and conflict to this very special story.

IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS.... Although as of this writing the days are still warm, the
leaves are just starting to turn, and it's not especially Christmassy outside, the romances crossing my desk tell another
story. Family-centered charmers; modern romps; cozy, community narratives; and tales with a dusting of magic or a
paranormal twist--infused with holiday themes and sporting covers featuring idyllic snowy scenes, balsam and holly
wreaths, and sparkling ornaments and satin ribbons--are the perfect incentive to get ready for the upcoming season. The
current offerings provide something for every taste, so get started on your shopping, pour yourself an early cup of hot
buttered rum, and check out the books below. Note: Holiday-themed anthologies continue to be popular, and their
quickly devoured stories are ready-made for this busy time of year. For more yuletide titles, see "Killer Holidays," p.

Eight years ago, devastated and secretly pregnant, 18-year-old Sophie DiRossi fled Harmony Harbor for Los Angeles,
certain she'd never return. A disastrous house fire leaves her no option, so she and her young daughter head home to a
town and people she'd once adored--and into a precarious new life filled with old conflicts, opportunities, and
complications. Not the least of the latter is firefighter (and knight in shining armor) Liam Gallagher, her very private
teenage crush. Lively family interactions, a profusion of memorable characters, long-kept secrets, and issues relating to
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) fuel this engaging holiday story. The death of a meddling matriarch and the
search for her "tell-all" memoir throw the prickly Gallagher and DiRossi clans into chaos just in time for Christmas.
VERDICT This touching, often funny story tweaks the classic "secret baby" plot in a surprising way. A hint of ghostly
fantasy shimmers through this first entry in a new small-town series, leaving enough loose ends to have fans anxious for
the next installment. Mason (Happy Ever After in Christmas) lives in Ottawa, Ont.

As a surprise, Eva Jordan agrees to decorate for Christmas the apartment of the grandson of one of her events and
concierge company's oldest clients (even preparing frozen meals) and finds crime writer Lucas Blade lurking in the dark
instead of in Vermont where he is supposed to be working. Recently widowed Lucas has hit a massive writer's block
and is hiding out at home. He certainly doesn't want an effervescent, captivating, Christmas-loving woman disturbing
his peace--although it's exactly what he needs. A cynical novelist who doesn't believe in love and an optimistic chef
who thinks it's more important than all else set the pages alight in a compelling romance that tempers the serious issues
of loneliness, grief, and fear of commitment with the salutary joy of the season. VERDICT Sexy, touching, and often
hilarious, this rewarding tale stands on its own while being the perfect conclusion to Morgan's popular series. RITA
Award winner Morgan (Sunset in Central Park) lives near London, England.

Christmas wedding at her best friend Shelly's home, Eagle Hill Manor. Shelly was killed before the house could be
restored, but Willow knows it's just what she would have wanted. The stumbling block is getting aspiring congressman
David Lyndon, Shelly's still-grieving husband and cousin to the groom, to agree. A heroine with a knack for stirring up
trouble and a hero who finally gets his priorities straight come to terms about their mutual feelings in a story knee-deep
in class issues, family expectations, political action, and characters both to love and loathe (among them an adorable
eight-year-old and a domineering mother who makes Cruella de Vil look like a saint). VERDICT With skillful
precision, Ramsay nails the political dynamics and small-town vibe and launches an endearing series fans will savor.

Riley's fiance has called off the wedding; the house that Noel loves and wants to buy is being sold to a flipper; and Jo is
dealing with a late-term pregnancy and a stubborn military husband, so heading to the mall to tell Santa what they want
for Christmas seemed like a good idea at the time. After all, what could it hurt? But when Santa's strange predictions
start coming true, the three friends begin to wonder if he wasn't the real deal, after all. VERDICT Christmas wishes
become reality for three young women in a charming holiday tale that has a perky chick lit feel and will appeal equally
to women's fiction and romance fans. Just plain fun, with a dusting of magic for good measure! Roberts (Home on
Apple Blossom Road) lives on a lake in Washington State.

Proposing to a man was the last thing quiet seamstress Nora Underhill ever thought she'd do. Yet when she learns that
her greedy brother and his spoiled, demanding wife are moving to Seattle, she sees her hard-won independence
vanishing and strikes a desperate bargain with upstanding Simon Wallin--her 160-acre land grant for his protection in
marriage. It's the perfect answer to both their problems, and, naturally, their pragmatic marriage could never become
real. Never. Delightful family interactions (a crew of rowdy brothers are memorable), admirable protagonists who come
into their own, and descriptions that bring the colorful historical Northwest to life combine in a well-paced story that
saves a twist or two for the end. VERDICT Tender yet laced with humor, this well-researched, faith-suffused Christmas
romance should please both inspirational and sweet historical fans; a worthy addition to this popular series. Scott (A
Rancher of Convenience) lives in Tacoma.

There's no way pet shop owner Willa Davis is getting involved with real estate developer Keane Winters, the arrogant
jock who once crushed her teenage heart by standing her up for the high school Sadie Hawkins dance--and now he
doesn't even remember her. However, she can't resist an animal (or a person) in need, so helping him out with his greataunt's
gorgeous Siamese cat is another matter entirely. Willa is magnetic and Keane is persistent, and despite her plan to
swear off men, Willa is drawn into a relationship far more serious than either had wanted. A quirky cast filled with
familiar characters, a fountain with legendary powers, and a bevy of heart-stealing animals are pluses in this wellwritten
tale. VERDICT Lighthearted, sexy, and fully entertaining, this second-chance romance blends holiday cheer
with long-buried emotional issues and plenty of passion. This delectable story adds another cheeky charmer to Shalvis's
San Francisco--set series. Shalvis (Sweet Little Lies) lives in the Sierras near Lake Tahoe.

When a strange wolf-pup child is dropped off at a jaguar day-care center just before the holidays and the parents can't

to find his missing family. Romance blossoms between the pair as they track down cross-country leads, but as neither
shifter species had known the other existed, the situation takes on a dangerous, unpredictable edge, making the search a
lot more complex and wide-ranging. VERDICT This sensuous, heartwarming romance, enhanced by an adorable wolf
pup and wintertime fun, puts an intriguing paranormal spin on the season and forges a welcome link with Spear's wolfshifter
titles. Spear (Billionaire in Wolfs Clothing) lives in Texas.

Widowed Andie Montgomery is planning to give her two young children a wonderful first Christmas in Haven Point--
and it doesn't include keeping tabs on Marshall Bailey, the wounded, grouchy sheriff who lives up the street. But there's
no way she can refuse her friend Wynona's request to check in on her brother as he recovers, especially as Wyn had
saved Andie by taking a bullet for her in a terrifying confrontation. Naturally, Marsh isn't looking for help, but earnest
Andie won't take no for an answer. In addition, her chatty four-year-old and his painfully shy older sister take Marsh in
hand, and he can't help but be charmed. Is he in danger of falling for them all, including their relationship-wary mom?
A mystery, a rebellious teenager, and hints of long-standing town conflict add interest and depth to this ongoing series.
VERDICT A stubbornly independent hero who learns to accept assistance and a heroine afraid of risking another loss
take a chance on each other. This holiday-steeped romance overflows with family and wintry small-town appeal.

hurts and betrayals make their path to love anything but smooth, and with plenty of issues to work through and truths to
disclose, their humorous sparring and contentious courtship keep the plot on point and readers thoroughly mesmerized.

Although most orphans dream of being happily reunited with their families (rich and titled, of course), Anna Snow,
abandoned at four and now a teacher at that same orphanage, knows such things never happen. Except they do, as Anna
is in truth Lady Anastasia Westcott and has inherited a fortune, an event that turns her life, and the lives of her stunned,
rather resentful family, upside down. Caught between two worlds, Anna is determined to make the best of things, but
when Avery Archer, Duke of Netherby, outrageously gorgeous, outwardly bored, and notoriously averse to anything
resembling work, decides to lend a hand, she gains an unexpected ally and an equally unexpected love. An intriguing
premise, a well-designed plot, and a delightful array of secondary characters ensure a compelling read. VERDICT
Brilliant dialog, sly wit, and soul-searing emotion breathe life into a pair of unlikely but beautifully matched
protagonists who will slip into readers' hearts. A stunning romance that puts a new spin on a familiar fairy-tale plot and
gets Balogh's latest series off to a magnificent start. The incomparable Balogh (Only Beloved) lives in Canada. [See

CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE
There's nothing like a major snowstorm to change lives, narrow the focus on the things that really matter, and add a
little sparkle (or a dash of danger) to the holidays. The series-linked novellas in this wintry collection definitely rise to
the occasion. Cruelly torn apart ten years ago, a couple are given a second chance to make things right for themselves
and their young daughter in Ryan's emotionally compelling "Close to Perfect" ("Montana Men"); a pair of longestranged
lovers come to terms with their feelings when they are forced to ride out a raging blizzard at a ranch with
family and friends in Lia Riley's fast-paced "Hot Winter's Night" ("Brightwater"); and two longtime friends are
snowbound overnight and end up exploring feelings that have been simmering unacknowledged for years in Maisey
Yates's insightful "Snowed in at Copper Ridge Lodge" ("Copper Ridge"). VERDICT Holiday ambience and stirring
emotion permeate these steamy stories, making them perfect late-night reads and leaving fans yearning for a snowstorm
of their own. Ryan, Riley, and Yates are West Coast authors all.

Hope Ramsay, Grand Central/Forever, $5.99 mass market (368p) ISBN 978-0-446-57609-3
Ramsay's delicious contemporary debut introduces the town of Last Chance, S.C., and its warmhearted inhabitants.
Down to her last five bucks, beautiful runaway Wanda Jane Coblentz heads to the town watering hole and picks up local
fiddler Clay Rhodes, figuring that a night at the local no-tell motel beats sleeping on a park bench. When Clay catches
her going through his wallet, he dumps her purse out and discovers ID for somebody named Mary Smith. Talk about
getting off on the wrong foot! Jane, aka Mary, reveals that she's on the run from a shady, possibly dangerous past.
Despite her sketchy behavior, Clay falls in love with her, and soon he and his mother are scheming in fine style to give
Jane a last chance of her own. Ramsay strikes an excellent balance between tension and humor as she spins a fine yarn.

SEASONAL SPARKLERS Whether cozy and family-centered or action-packed and adventurous, lively and urban or
peaceful and rural, passionate and steamy or subdued and tender, this year's crop of holiday romances continues the
longstanding tradition of providing something for everyone. Not surprisingly, romances focusing on small towns and
communities as well as stories linked by theme or character are particularly popular, and novellas in anthologies will
often have connections to the author's other titles. So grab a cup of coffee or a mug of tea, help yourself to the cookies,
and settle in for some holiday cheer! [Although romances are reprinted year-round, holiday reissues are especially
prolific. Unfortunately, these are not always billed as reprints. It might take some digging, but it is usually worth
double-checking to find out.]

Alexander, Victoria. His Mistress by Christmas. Kensington. Oct. 2011. c.352p. ISBN 9780758255679. $19.95.
HISTORICAL
Independent and happy to be widowed, Lady Veronica Smithson is looking for a lover, not a husband. But when she
sets her sights on explorer Sir Sebastian Hadley-Attwater, she neglects to consider his skillful determination and need to
marry. Soon, Veronica is caught up in a game of seduction that sweeps the pair from town to country in a deliciously
unpredictable holiday drama that sparkles with humor, overflows with assorted family members, and relates the most
memorable Christmas ever. VERDICT Smart and sexy, filled with witty banter and stellar writing, this lively Victorian
jaunt pairs a free-thinking, unconventional heroine with a footloose hero in a glorious battle of the sexes. Alexander
(The Perfect Mistress) lives in Omaha.
Brown, Carolyn. Darn Good Cowboy Christmas. Sourcebooks Casablanca. Oct. 2011. c.384p. ISBN 9781402261572.
pap. $7.99. CONTEMPORARY
All her life, carny-raised Lizelle Hanson has dreamed of having a home with no wheels. So when her uncle gives her his
small ranch, she jumps at the chance to fulfill her dream. The last person she expects to find looking after the house is
sexy cowboy Raylen O'Donnell. Despite dire predictions from her family (and doubts front Raylen's), Liz is determined
to stay. While her carny talents and free-spirited upbringing make for some interesting moments and the carnival lure
still draws her in, Lizelle finds no match for the irresistible passion that sizzles between herself and Raylen. VERDICT
Sassy and quirky and peopled with an abundance of engaging characters, this fast-paced holiday romp brims with
music, laughter, intriguing carnival detail, and plenty of Texas flavor. A classic battle between "wings and roots" that is
sure to please Brown's growing Western fan base. Brown (Red's Hot Cowboy) lives in Oklahoma but has a soft spot for
Texas. [Library marketing.]
Burrowes, Grace. Lady Sophie's Christmas Wish. Sourcebooks Casablanca. Oct. 2001. c.416p. ISBN 9781402261541.
pap. $7.99. HISTORICAL
Thrown together by chance and the vicious London weather, Lady Sophia Windham and Wilhelm (Vim) Charpentier,
Lord Sindal, suddenly find themselves snowed in, in charge of a baby abandoned by Sophie's maid. They face a
growing attraction for each other, as well as an attachment to the child, while not knowing each other's true identity.
Passion soon flares, but it isn't until Sophie's three brothers finally arrive that they sort things out and set things to rights.
But then life just becomes more complicated. VERDICT Supremely sexy, emotionally involving, and graced with wellwritten
dialog, this gently paced, baby-centered story is a fascinating, enjoyable read and nicely connects with the
author's earlier books (The Heir; The Soldier). Burrowes lives in rural Maryland. [Library marketing.]

Carr, Robyn. Bring Me Home for Christmas. Mira: Harlequin. (Virgin River). Nov. 2011. c.336p. ISBN
9780778312710. pap. $7.99. CONTEMPORARY
Sensing that her law student boyfriend is about to pop the question and unsure of her feelings for an old flame, secondgrade
teacher Becca Timm talks her twin brother into taking her on a guys-only hunting and fishing trip with his exMarine
buddies. Her secret goal? To see Denny Cutler, her former boyfriend who has settled in Virgin River, and to
assure herself that the fire that once burned so hotly between them is definitely extinguished. But when a broken ankle
keeps Becca in town longer than she expected, she reluctantly moves in with Denny. The enforced togetherness gives
them time to sort out their past--and make sure they don't let another chance at happiness slip through their fingers.
VERDICT Virgin Kiver once again springs to vivid life, this time with all the warmth and sparkle of the holiday season,
as the talented Carr weaves another touching, insightful tale of love, understanding, and forgiveness and offers a couple
a welcoming place to call home. Carr (Harvest Moon) lives in Las Vegas.
Leigh, Lora & others. Tied with a Bow. Berkley Sensation: Penguin Group (USA). Nov. 2011. c.432p. ISBN
9780425243299. pap. $15. PARANORMAL
Four talented romance authors team up with lively novellas that put a seductive, supernatural spin on the holidays. A
fallen angel meets a woman he saved from death as a child in Virginia Kantra's "Upon a Midnight Clear," the Regencyset
prequel to her "Children of the Sea" series. In a world filled with half-human vampires (ventala), demons, muses,
archangels, and assorted folk, a young journalist rescues a time traveler and is plunged into a miraculous adventure in
Kimberly Frost's "First Light," a novella that launches her new paranormal series. Unaccustomed to interacting with
humans, a member of the Lupi spends the holidays with his mate's human Wiccan family with interesting results in
Eileen Wilks's "Human Error." A Coyote Breed enforcer must claim his mate when her actions put her in danger in
Leigh's latest addition to her popular "Breed" series, "An Inconvenient Mate." VERDICT This sizzling quartet of
holiday--linked erotic paranormal romances is just the thing to warm up a wintry night; perfect for readers who like
their reading with a sexy, otherworldly edge.
McCarthy, Erin & others. Unwrapped. Brava: Kensington. Oct. 2011. c.320p. ISBN 9780758251329. pap. $15.
CONTEMPORARY
Chilling winter weather sweeps from downtown Chicago and a snowy Kentucky highway to a wild Scottish isle,
wreaking havoc--and romance--for the characters in this sexy Christmas trilogy. A slippery road lands a hairstylist in
the arms of a toy designer when they are trapped by a blizzard and end up sharing a motel room in McCarthy's sultry
"Blue Christmas"; a basket weaver and a wary bachelor solicitor finally come to terms with their feelings for each other
in Donna Kauffman's "Santa in a Kilt"; and a couple who once shared a night of ski resort passion meet again in a
Chicago department store and end up snowbound when a blizzard shuts the city down in Kate Angell's creative "Snow
Angel." VERDICT Gorgeous, sexy heroes are just waiting to be unwrapped in this crackling anthology that is
guaranteed to steam up the windows this holiday season.
eShalvis, Jill & others. Small Town Christmas. Forever: Grand Central. Nov. 2011. c.147p, eISBN 9781455513611.
EPUB $2.99. CONTEMPORARY
Small-town settings are all the rage, especially at Christmas, and in this funny, heartwarming collection of short stories,
three popular authors take readers home for the holidays to very different but equally enjoyable communities that are
linked to each author's continuing series. A champion NASCAR driver returns to Lucky Harbor, WA, in hopes of
claiming the one woman he can't get out of his mind in Shalvis's lively, laughter-laced "Kissing Santa Claus." In her
sweetly poignant "I'll Be Home for Christmas," Hope Ramsay showcases a bit of matchmaking magic (in the form of a
bedraggled calico cat) when an ex-soldier arrives in Last Chance, SC, to deliver a gift from a fallen comrade and finds a
woman to love and a place to call home. The "love light" dawns for quiet farmer Ethan Miller when his childhood best
friend returns to Bramble, TX--seven years older and all grown up--in Katie Lane's funny and charming "O Little Town
of Bramble."
VERDICT Although fans of the various series are sure to enjoy these brief holiday forays, the stories will appeal to new
readers as well and may just tempt them to make return visits. This e-only title might also entice print--only series fans
into trying something new.
Thomas, Jodi & others. A Texas Christmas. Zebra: Kensington. Oct. 2011. c.352p. ISBN 9781420119664. pap. $6.99.

Cleverly linked by a devastating 1887 Texas blizzard and the panhandle town of Kasota Springs, the stories in this

school misfits who meet again when a reclusive farmer saves the mercantile owner from thugs and they end up trapped
in his secluded home in "One Wish: A Christmas Story." An ostracized lady saloon owner helps and in turn is helped by
a wounded Bostonian in search of the pink bluebonnet in DeWanna Pace's captivating "Naughty or Nice." In Linda
Broday's realistic "The Christmas Bell," a rancher sets out to rescue passengers stranded on a snowbound train and ends
up trapped himself with a lovely, surprisingly capable banker's daughter. A quiet blacksmith shelters a young widow
and her children from the storm as well as from her difficult aunt in Phyliss Miranda's heartwarming "Away in the
Manger." VERDICT Wintry, warm, and infinitely readable, this Western anthology of related stories is unusually
satisfying--a winner for readers who like collections filled with Old West flavor.
Woods, Sherryl. An O'Brien Family Christmas. Mira: Harlequin. (Chesapeake Shores). Oct. 2011. c.288p. ISBN
9780778312703. $16.95. CONTEMPORARY
When a relationship with noted ladies' man Matthew O'Brien ruins her career, Laila Riley impulsively breaks things off,
but neither expects to end up going to Ireland for Christmas with the entire O'Brien clan. It seems Nell O'Brien is one
determined grandmother (as well as a sly matchmaker), and when Laila and Matthew finally confront each other and
agree to go, the stage is set for romance--just as Nell had planned. But Nell hadn't counted on meeting in Dublin an old
love of her own--something that has her grandchildren speculating, one overprotective son tied up in knots, and Nell,
herself, faced with unexpected options. VERDICT Heart-melting, poignant, and romantic, this year's O'Brien family
holiday celebration overlays the warm, hectic joy of the season with a dash of conflict and a touch of the Irish. A
memorable, multi-layered story. Woods (Beach Lane) divides her time between Colonial Beach, VA, and Key Biscayne,
FL.
NOT IN THE HOLIDAY MOOD?
Freethy, Barbara. Garden of Secrets. Pocket Star: S. & S. (Angel's Bay, Bk. 5). Oct. 2011. c.384p. ISBN
9781451636512. pap. $7.99. ROMANTIC MYSTERY
In an effort to avoid two rival beaus at a New Year's Eve party, Dr. Charlotte Adams escapes upstairs at the stroke of
midnight and suddenly finds herself a suspect in the robbery and assault of the sister of a woman she had issues with in
high school. Old secrets and resentments bubble to the surface along with new threats and a few red herrings in this
well-plotted romantic mystery that brings at least one deserving pair together, solves more than one puzzle, and will
have readers anxiously turning pages until the very end. VERDICT With masterly flair and sensitivity and a sweet
dusting of ghostly magic, Freethy delivers a stunning conclusion to her beloved "Angel's Bay" series. The author (At
Hidden Falls) lives in the San Francisco area.
* Goodman, Jo. A Place Called Home. Zebra: Kensington. Dec. 2011. c.416p. ISBN 9780821774182. pap. $6.99.
CONTEMPORARY
Caught off guard when they become joint guardians of three children after the parents, their dear friends, are killed in an
accident, businesswoman Thea Wyndham and political cartoonist Mitchell Baker struggle with their grief, their
situation, and their difficult significant others. They realize that neither is prepared to become a parent--and certainly not
alone. But the children need them, and as they work to solve their separate dilemmas, Thea and Mitch discover that they
need each other, as well. VERDICT Realistic, romantic, and infused with plenty of humor, this brilliantly executed,
fearlessly sensual first contemporary title from an author who has made her name in historicals is a stunning success.
While this reviewer wouldn't want to see Goodman neglect the historical arena, another modern-day winner like this
heartwarming novel would be more than welcome. Goodman (Kissing Comfort) lives in West Virginia.
Robb. J.D. & others. The Unquiet. Jove: Berkley: Penguin Group (USA). Oct. 2011. c.416p. ISBN 9780515149982.
pap. $7.99. PARANORMAL
An appealing assortment of characters seek answers and, in some cases, internal "quiet" as they fight to make sense of a
wide variety of strange happenings in this well-crafted anthology. Eve Dallas confronts a Jekyll and Hyde nightmare as
she works to solve the gruesome murder of three recovering addicts in Robb's gripping, futuristic "Chaos in Death": a
mysterious coin works its magic in unexpected ways in Mary Blayney's Regency--set historical "Her Greatest
Treasure"; a series of misunderstandings centering on a phone psychic eventually reward the characters in Patricia
Gaffney's touching "Dear One"; a violent Highland ghost trapped in time resolves his issues with the help of a
determined, fearless woman in Ruth Ryan Langan's sensual "Unforgiven"; and a ghost finally succeeds in bringing
peace to his guilt-ridden brother by means of a psychically susceptible children's author in Mary Kay McComas's
mesmerizing, sometimes unsettling "His Brother's Keeper." VERDICT While not Halloween-specific, this superbly
conceived paranormal collection includes everything you'll need for a thrilling October read.

Roberts, Nora. The Next Always. Berkley: Penguin Group (USA). (inn BoonsBoro Trilogy, Bk. 1). Nov. 2011. c.352p.
ISBN 9780425243213. pap. $16. CONTEMPORARY
Up to his eyeballs in the details of working with his family's contracting company to restore Boonsboro's dilapidated
historic hotel and turn it into an elegant, boutique bed-and-breakfast, architect/carpenter Beckett Montgomery has had
little time for a social life. But when a brief, slightly enchanted moment in the shadowy hotel results in a near kiss
between him and Clare Brewster, the woman he has been attracted to since high school, the stage is set for romance and
a relationship neither had expected.
A young war widow with three scrappy young sons; a hunky, caring, kid-friendly hero; two rambunctious trios of
brothers; and the inn's resident ghost trailing honeysuckle and silvery laughter make this another winner for Roberts.
VERDICT Incorporating Tinny humor, spot-on dialog, and a bonedeep understanding of brotherly relationships,
Roberts has taken a page from her own life as the owner and restorer of the Inn BoonsBoro to launch what promises to
be another winning trilogy--touching, funny, sweetly sexy, slightly paranormal, and just plain satisfying. Roberts
(Chasing Fire) lives in Keedysville, MD (just a stone's throw from Boonsboro).

Inn at Last Chance
Hope Ramsay. Grand Central/Forever, $8 mass market (368p) ISBN 978-1-4555-2231-6
Ramsay turns her seventh Last Chance contemporary Southern romance (after Last Chance Knit & Stitch) into a
surprisingly successful haunted house tale, exploring dark themes about the past interfering with the present while
making a delightful tribute to Jane Eyre. Horror writer Gabriel Raintree pushes his way back into using his old family
home in Last Chance, S.C., as a writing retreat, even though Jenny Carpenter has just bought the building and is almost
ready to open it as a B&B. The unsettled ghost of Gabriel's brother, Luke, is as attention-seeking and strongly
opinionated as Jenny's book club friends, who would rather push her into a romance with attractive young Pastor Tim
than allow her to embrace the idea of a happy spinsterhood. Jenny's brave self-aware response--reinventing herself with
a new fashion style and pursuing Gabriel for physical passion without expecting wedding bells--yields an upbeat,
empowering, and still sweet novel about balancing community pressure with personal needs. (May)

ROMANCE AND THE YOUNGER SET It's almost a given that babies (secret and otherwise) and young children have
long been staples of romance fiction, especially in sweet, family-centered stories. But it's not just the little ones who are
enlivening the action in today's titles. Teenagers are making their presence felt, as well, and the results are often
delightful. Whether these youngsters are key to the plot, responsible for adding depth or comic interest, or merely
included for realism and background, they bring color and charm to both contemporaries and historicals and, in some
cases, can be the most memorable characters.

savvy enough to win her trust, and a supporting cast you'll want to meet again come together in an insightful, delightful

Engaged for eight long years to the Marquess of Granville, who is always abroad on diplomatic missions for the Crown,
Clio Whitmore is thrilled when her surprise inheritance of Twill Casde means she no longer needs to marry for security
and can call off her upcoming wedding. Now all she needs is for her fiance's reprobate, prizefighting brother to sign the
papers to dissolve the betrothal in the Marquess's continuing absence. But Rafe Brandon, who's been handling the
marquessate's affairs and would like nothing better than to see his brother back home, has no intention of doing so--and
it's up to him to convince Clio to go on with the nuptials. Naturally, it doesn't work out that way. VERDICT A smart
and spirited woman who wants control of her own life, a caring, responsible nobleman who hides his feelings behind his
"Devil's Own" reputation, and a castle full of quirky characters (a brilliant, outspoken teenager is exceptional) keep the

Ruined as a girl and tarred by the resulting scandal, nobly born unwed mother Lady Georgiana Pearson will do anything
to assure her young daughter's happiness--even if it takes returning to society after ten years and marrying for status, not
love. But Georgiana is more than she appears to be. Behind the elegant exterior lives a clever, determined woman who's
carved out a secret, dangerous life--a life that gives her enormous power over the ton but could crumble if the truth was
ever revealed. When ruthless, perceptive newspaper owner Duncan West enters her sphere, things take a far more dicey
and ultimately passionate turn. Sharp wit, flashes of humor, long-simmering fury, and a wealth of well-drawn characters
add depth to this superbly rendered tale that deftly addresses social, class, and women's issues while delivering a
stunning romance. VERDICT Brilliant, seductive, and intensely engaging, this addictive story pairs powerful, driven
protagonists with a seemingly unsolvable dilemma in an ingenious, wonderfully satisfying conclusion to MacLean's
remarkable quartet. Although this book is complete in itself, fans will be well rewarded by reading the entire series in
order. MacLean (No Good Duke Goes Unpunished) lives in New York City. [An LJ 2014 Best Romance; see p. 30.]

Any fan of the romance genre knows that meek, wimpy, submissive heroines are generally things of the past. Oh, I
know there are a few out there who are on the less courageous side, but, in general, today's heroines stand up for
themselves and no longer wait for a heroic rescue. In fact, they often rescue themselves--and sometimes the hero as
well. While the pattern differs with the time period (i.e., heroines during certain historical eras have more constraints
than others), the heroines today's readers most admire are those with gumption, grit, and the intelligence and
determination to figure things out and get what they want. Most of the heroines in the books that follow step up to the
plate, eventually, although it takes some longer than others.

dangerously addictive page-turner is a hands-down Regency winner; the rest of the series can't come fast enough.

Literally left standing at the altar when her groom (and longtime best friend) reluctantly comes out of the closet on their
wedding day, landscape architect Faith Holland leaves her small New York town and heads west. But San Francisco is
far from fertile romantic ground and after more than three years away, she misses home. So when a family crisis
beckons, Faith heads back to the Finger Lakes and her family's Blue Heron Winery, hoping to lay the past to rest and
carve out a future. She never imagines she'll fall in love with Levi Cooper, the local police chief and the man she blames
for her wedding day disaster. VERDICT With a brilliant combination of priceless humor, crackerjack dialog, and
insightful characterization, Higgins spins a realistic, touching tale of heartbreak, healing, and homecoming graced with
an abundance of people you want to know better and a stunning, bucolic setting you won't want to leave. Higgins

Tired of her vicious mother's constant cruel criticism and her bleak Philadelphia life, Mariah Cooper (with a little urging
from her aunt) impulsively answers an ad and heads for Northern California to become a housekeeper. But beautiful,
outspoken Mariah was not the prim, older woman arrogant rancher Logan Yates was expecting, and her decision to stay
and take on the Herculean task of setting his filthy house to rights surprises him even more. Still, the chemistry sizzles
between them from the start, and despite the couple's constant wrangling, their future together at a ranch called Destino
is clear from the start. VERDICT Appealing, well-depicted characters, zippy dialog, intriguing snippets of California
history, and a quickly paced plot make this refreshing multicultural Western a rewarding read and a good start to the
projected series. Jenkins (A Wish and a Prayer) is noted for her popular African American historicals; she lives in

Frustrated at being bound from birth by a spell that prevents her from falling in love, Justine Hoffman recklessly taps
into her magical heritage in an attempt to lift the curse. But her untutored efforts have consequences, throwing her life
into chaos and endangering that of enigmatic Jason Black, as well. Dangerous magic, longkept secrets, and swift action
keep the plot of this compelling story bubbling as a reluctant hereditary witch and a man in search of a soul challenge
fate in a deadly battle for love. VERDICT This heartrending, steamy sizzler gives new meaning to the term soul mates
and ties up loose ends as it beautifully concludes Kleypas's mesmerizing "Friday Harbor" series. Kleypas (Dream Lake)

Brainy, bookish, bespectacled, and betrothed to a kindly but rather dimwitted earl, Lady Philippa Marbury knows all
about anatomy and science but nothing about the physical side of marriage--and she only has 15 days to research it!
What she needs is a research associate who's an expert on the subject, and from everything she's heard, tall, suave,
wickedly charming Cross, a partner at her brother-in-law's gaming hell, the Fallen Angel, is the perfect person to ask.
So she does--in one of the funniest and cleverest first-meeting scenes ever written. VERDICT Dark dealings, tragic
secrets, and old vendettas temper the social glitter and add a realistic touch to this offbeat story that is seductive, witty,
and charming as sin and nicely continues MacLean's compelling series. MacLean (A Rogue by Any Other Name) lives

Convinced by her parents' loveless match and her sister Sophia's unrequited infatuation that falling in love only brings
pain, Julia St. Claire plans never to marry at all--or, if she must, to wed someone she merely likes. But her socialclimbing
mother's selfish machinations and her father's gambling losses result in disaster for both sisters. When she
finds herself betrothed to the cad Sophia pines for, Julia runs to Benedict Revelstoke, her longtime best friend, with a
proposition he can't refuse. VERDICT Gossip, scandal, and breezy banter enliven this unusual dual love story that
features some beautifully rendered secondary characters, illuminates realistic dilemmas, and highlights the
overwhellning importance of one's social standing (a classic theme in traditional Regency romances). Macnamara's
debut novel was a finalist for a Romance Writers of America Golden Heart Award for unpublished manuscript.

Forced by scandal to leave his reckless London life, Maximillian Burke, Earl of Dravenwood, heads for the wilds of
Cornwall to see to the management of Cadgwyck Manor, one of his family's recent acquisitions. However, instead of
finding a peaceful, remote retreat, he is greeted by a neglected, unkempt mansion; inedible food; a ragtag staff; and
Anne Spencer, his prim, businesslike housekeeper. The estate has been plagued by tragedy, is feared by the townsfolk,
and is haunted by the ghost of Angelica Cadgwyck, the elusive White Lady. Naturally, things aren't at all what they
seem and secrets abound--secrets that Max knows he must uncover but ones Anne is determined to conceal. VERDICT
A pair of deeply wounded protagonists who must learn to forgive themselves, a charming group of secondary
characters, and a complex, well-crafted plot result in a tale that is beautifully linked to the author's The Pleasure of Your
Kiss. With deliciously Gothic touches, this novel is another winner for the talented, Kentucky-based Medeiros.

being doled out bit by damaging bit in the local papers. If she were to be exposed as the author, it wouldn't be just her

her life or her son's. But Dash has changed, and as Savannah begins to appreciate the man he has become, the barriers

FROM MY SOAPBOX
The television show The Bachelor on January 14 featured a group date with several women posing with the current
bachelor for the best photo in order to win a cover-model contract with Harlequin publishers. I'm sure that fans of the
reality series loved it and maybe you did, too. Yet, the focus on cover models for romances made me see red. (OK, it
depressed me, too, but fury is far more effective than moping around.) I thought we'd gotten past this years ago--but
shades of Fabio!--I guess we haven't. Don't get me wrong. I do know how important covers are to book sales; a stunning
jacket can make all the difference to a publisher's bottom line and an author's visibility, and I respect that. But romance
is not about competitive women stabbing each other in the back in the hopes of winning some guy's favor--or being cute
or sexy enough to end up on a cover of a romance novel. Romance is essentially a genre about relationships--about
women taking control of their own lives, overcoming obstacles, winning their battles, achieving success, and finding
love on their own terms, In short, it's a genre that empowers women. Sadly, The Bachelor's message is not the one
central to current romances, nor the one we should be sending to today's young women.

Last Chance Family by Hope Ramsay Review
Mike Taggart in Last Chance Family by Hope Ramsay is used to gambling with money, as a professional gambler in Las Vegas he has no problem taking chances but, for the first time in his life, the chance he is taking might be more than he is willing to pay. When his half-sister is murdered Mike takes custody of his niece, 5 year-old niece Rainbow, and he is determined to give her the best family he can, which means tracking down his brother Tim, who he hasn’t seen since he was five, a pastor in Last Chance. While Father Tim seems willing to take on Rainbow, Mike decides to stay in Last Chance until he can find the perfect mother for Rainbow and arrange for that woman to date Tim.

Charlene Polk has a history of choosing the wrong men. When she meets her new temporary neighbor, sexy Mike she sees trouble written all over him. But Mike has his niece who desperately needs to be loved and Charlene desperately wants to give that love.

Last Chance Family is the eighth book in the Last Chance series set in a fabulous small town where miracles can happen but don’t expect to keep anything a secret. I am fan of the series but have to admit that Last Chance Family isn’t my favorite of the series. The novel is a great story of people trying to overcome past mistakes to become better than their parents but Charlene was a bit too wishy-washy when she was younger for me. I appreciate that she had strong parents who pressured her into doing what they wanted but I struggled a bit with her as the heroine. That being said, Last Chance Family is a great story about overcoming your past, letting others into your heart, and learning from your mistakes. You don’t have to read the Last Chance series in order (each of the novels is a stand alone novel) but you will appreciate the secondary characters better if you have read the previous series.

    WHY RATINGS?

It is true you can't judge a book by its cover, you also can't judge a book's graphic content by its cover. NovelReaction's goal is to provide readers with a graphic content so they can make an informed decision regarding the books they want to read. (Also, to have a great place for people to discuss books.) So sit back, pull up a beverage, and read on!
    GRAPHIC RATINGS*

    1 = kissing
    2 = kissing, some fondling
3 = descriptive stripping but no sex
4 = sex scene but not descriptive in details
5 = full descriptive sex scene

*I am rating a specific book by an author, not the author's style. If I am aware an author writes a specific way, I will let you know.
