SIDELIGHTS

Winona Kent, a graduate programs assistant at the University of British Columbia, was born in 1954 in London, England. When she was three years old, her family immigrated to Canada, where she grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan. She attended the University of Regina, where she received her B.A. in English. Later, she received her M.F.A. from the University of British Columbia and a diploma in Writing for Screen, Television, and New Media from Vancouver Film School.

Kent has published a number of novels, including The Cilla Rose Affair, Sky Watcher, Cold Play, Persistence of Memory, and In Loving Memory. The latter two books make up the first volumes of The Memory Series, which feature a combination of mystery and romance, centered around a time travel theme. The protagonists are Shaun Deeley from the nineteenth century and Mrs. Collins, also known as Charlie, from the twenty-first century.

In the second book in The Memory Series, In Loving Memory, Shaun and Charlie, who are living in Charlie’s countryside house in the present day, are suddenly transported back in time to 1940 London during the Blitz, a World War II period characterized by intense bombing from Germany’s air force, the Luftwaffe. There, they meet Charlie’s grandmother, who has become a target for a killer who is using time travel for his goals. Shaun and Charlie realize that if they don’t stop the killer, the future might be seriously affected.

A Publishers Weekly reviewer wrote: “Kent’s wonderfully complex and charming mystery asks interesting questions about how individual actions might change outcomes, but these heavy thoughts do not detract from Charlie and Shaun’s romance as their delightful banter reveals their solid devotion to each other.”

Kent combines time travel, mystery, and romance in a delightful sequel to Persistence of Memory that's easily accessible for new readers. Shaun
Deeley of the 19th century and Charlie Collins (or Mrs. Collins, as Shaun insists on calling her) of the 21st century, a pair of unpracticed,
accidental time travelers, have returned to Charlie's present-day English-countryside home to begin their lives together. However, as they are
putting together an exhibit at the Stoneford Village Museum, they unexpectedly transport back to 1940 London during the Blitz, where they meet
Charlie's grandmother, then a young woman. They quickly understand that this meeting is not a chance occurrence: Charlie and Shaun's family
history and the future they've already lived all depend on protecting Charlie's grandmother from a killer who is criss-crossing through the
centuries. Kent's wonderfully complex and charming mystery asks interesting questions about how individual actions might change outcomes, but
these heavy thoughts do not detract from Charlie and Shaun's romance as their delightful banter reveals their solid devotion to each other. (July)
