SIDELIGHTS

Marlow Kelly resides in Canada, where she splits her time between her family and her creative work. Kelly is aligned with the romantic fiction organization, Romance Writers of America, and has published several of her own novels.

Sun Storm is the first in a series of books, collectively titled Gathering StormSun Storm centers on Marie Wilson, who has devoted her professional years to studying science. The novel begins with Marie’s arrival to the state of Montana, where she intends to perform a few trial runs for her latest invention. She has recently devised a solar panel that could be potent enough to withstand the elements while still delivering efficient power. Yet trouble is headed her way, and it all has to do with her invention.

It kicks off when she encounters a man by the name of David Quinn, who is involved with a shady organization that is highly suspicious of Marie. They believe that her solar panel was created with the help of pilfered information, and that Marie snatched that information herself. As such, they are not just after the data taken from them, but Marie’s very life. Yet David immediately comes to suspect that Marie had nothing to do with the crime. Despite his doubts, however, his employers intend to get rid of her by any means necessary. David becomes determined to keep Marie safe from harm, and takes her with him on a trek through the state to seek safety. This means he must risk his job as well as his own life.

David and Marie spend much of the book trying to outrun those who would rather see them dead. This includes the corporate owner in charge of the offended organization, as well as his team of hired men who have been tasked with shooting Marie down. The pair must continually defend themselves against this group in order to stay alive. Yet in spite of this conflict, David and Marie find themselves dealing with growing feelings for one another. However, their circumstances make it hard for them to let their relationship reach fruition. If either of them hopes to stay alive, they will need to keep moving. Both their lives and the fate of Marie’s solar panel invention, which could bring so much good to the world, are at grave stakes. “The nonstop action is sure to keep readers turning pages,” remarked one Publishers Weekly contributor.

Marlow Kelly. Viceroy Press, $2.99 e-book (251 p) ISBN 978-0-9952301-1-8

In Kelly's action-packed, if farfetched, first Gathering Storm romantic thriller, Dr. Marie Wilson, a brilliant scientist, and David Quinn, an ex-Special Forces soldier, run for their lives through a Montana blizzard to evade gunmen, a corrupt police force, and a businessman who's willing to kill to ensure Marie's new invention never sees the light of day. Marie comes to Montana to test whether her innovative solar panel will withstand the cold; she has no idea she's about to become a hunted woman. David takes what he thinks is a simple job retrieving a stolen prototype for Public Domain Energy, but when he meets Marie, he realizes right away that she's no thief. He breaks the contract and feels honor-bound to protect her from his former client. As they're thrown together in the face of danger, sexual tension simmers between the pair. Though both the chase and the couple's budding relationship escalate at an implausibly rapid pace, the nonstop action is sure to keep readers turning pages. (BookLife)
