SIDELIGHTS
Carol Burton McLeod is an author and speaker at women’s conferences and retreats. She writes and speaks primarily about the Christian faith and runs the Just Joy! Ministries. McLeod also hosts a daily radio show broadcast in major markets throughout the United States and has a daily podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network. The first women’s chaplain at her alma mater, Oral Roberts University, McLeod married her college sweetheart.
McLeod’s books focus primarily on encouraging and empowering people, especially women, through practical biblical messages mixed with McLeod’s personal hope and humor. For example, in her book titled No More Ordinary: Living the Life You Were Made For, McLeod discusses how people can deal with all kinds of circumstances in their lives to lead a life of joy and zest. It includes numerous stories of people who have led extraordinary lives, such as Corrie ten Boom, a Dutch watchmaker and Christian who with her father and other family members helped many Jews escape the Nazi Holocaust during the course of World War II. In Holy Estrogen! Every Woman’s Guide to Making Her Emotions the Holiest Part of Her!, McLeod addresses the emotional fluctuations and challenges women undergo and how to discover the purpose of these emotions which God gave to women.
Guide Your Mind, Guard Your Heart, Grace Your Tongue is a guide to help people take control of their thoughts and feelings in order to “grace your tongue.” McLeod writes about the universal experience of saying hurtful words, especially loved ones. She states that people often say things under the influence of misguided feelings and thinking, noting that it is peoples’ thoughts and emotions that produce the words people speak. Based on Christian beliefs and biblical insights, the book focuses on people conducting their thoughts, words, and actions with an intentional mindset. Writing in the book’s introduction, McLeod notes: “The way minds, emotions, and tongues function is perhaps the greatest indicator of our spiritual health and psychological strength.”
The book is broken up into three sections, focusing on the mind, the heart, and the tongue. In each section McLeod uses day-to-day situations coupled with biblical insights to show how people can live their lives more intentionally and be more prosperous and happy in the process. For example, she compares the clutter within a person’s home with the clutter that often accumulates in peoples’ thoughts. McLeod also makes a correlation between a person’s mindset and physical health and stresses her belief that a strong relationship with God is important. A Publishers Weekly contributor noted McLeod’s “conversational tone and transparency.”

About Carol Button.png
Carol McLeod says, “I am just a girl who is head over heels in love with Jesus ... passionately addicted to His Word ... and find all of the joy that I need in time spent in His presence."
Carol is a Christmas-aholic, loves ACC basketball and burying her toes in the sand at the beach! Like all post-menopausal women, she is overly fond of chocolate and enjoys a good read. She doesn't like cleaning her house and is an expert in carry-out dinners. She hates to shop … loves to jog … and somehow finds time in her busy life to hang out with small children. She is the kind of woman that you could laugh with over lunch, cry with over disappointment, and shout with over a victory!
But … if you need her official bio … read on!

Guide Your Mind, Guard Your Heart, Grace Your Tongue
Carol Burton McLeod. Whitaker, $15.99 trade paper (240p) ISBN 978-1-64123-000-1
McLeod (Defiant Joy), host of the Defiant Joy! Radio show and former Women's Chaplain at Oral Roberts
University, delves into the Christian ethos by encouraging readers to begin with themselves in this joyful
guide to living. By addressing day-to-day situations with biblical insight, McLeod conveys the message that
a full, prosperous life can be achieved when actions are conducted with an intentional mind-set. The book's
first scenario compares the clutter in homes to the scattered thoughts that often keep someone off course.
Effortlessly, McLeod shows how the mind needs constant cleaning to "keep up with the process of
organizing our mental clutter" so that it doesn't fall prey to spiritual havoc. An underlying theme throughout
is having a strong relationship with God, and McLeod encourages readers to find joy in him instead of
through material and social gratification. McLeod draws a direct line between physical health and mind-set,
as each idea or opinion "begins in the mind, travels to the heart, and finally comes out of the mouth."
McLeod's conversational tone and transparency will leave Christian readers ready to tackle the clutter in
their minds and pain in their hearts. (Apr.)
