Killian B. Brewer is a writer and novelist living in Georgia. When he’s not writing fiction, he works in the banking industry. He grew up in the southern United States in a family that valued the telling of a good story. Brewer traces his interest in writing to this upbringing. He started writing fiction and poetry at age fifteen and developed a love of storytelling, and wordplay. He holds a B.A. degree in English.
The Rules of Ever After
Brewer’s first novel, The Rules of Ever After, is a fantasy novel centered around the story of two young princes and their search for love. Prince Phillip and Prince Daniel know their lives are restricted by the rules that royalty must follow, but they are interested in a life that the royal restrictions can’t prevent. After being brought together unexpectedly, these two princes realize that they are meant for each other, and begin seeking a way to find the “happily ever after” they want.
In an interview on the website Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words, Brewer explained the origins of The Rules of Ever After and why he wanted to write the book. “Years ago while studying the Brothers Grimm’s tales for a college class, I had the thought, ‘What if the prince climbed the tower and found another prince?’ Rules grew out of that thought.”
Brewer soon realized that the standards that apply to traditional fantasies and fairy tales wouldn’t apply in his novel. “Fairy tales and royal life both have very definite ‘rules for how the characters should behave. But when you have a prince who would prefer his happily ever after to be with another prince, the usual fairy tale and royal ‘rules’ won’t necessarily work,” he said in the Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words interview. He further realized that the story he was creating reflected many of the concerns of the LGBTQ community, comprising people who have had to revise or make up their own rules for living. “I wanted to write a tale where a young gay man could imagine himself in the stories we all grew up with but that never included all of us. The idea of rewriting the rules is what inspired the title,” he told the Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words interviewer.
In The Rules of Ever After, “All the familiar tropes are here but Brewer deftly creates a cast of loveable characters and a tale that’s light-hearted and funny,” commented a reviewer on the Molly Lolly Blog.
Lunch with the Do Nothings at the Tammy Dinette
With his second novel, Lunch with the Do Nothings at the Tammy Dinette, Brewer relies on his deep knowledge and love of Southern style and culture to present the story of Marcus Sumter as he embarks on a new life in the small southern town of Marathon, Georgia. The son of a woman who spent most of her time working in small southern diners, Marcus thought he had become established as a genuine Atlanta city boy in a comfortable relationship with Robert, an older man. However, he refused to recognize the high level of dysfunction between them. When their relationship disintegrates into violence, Marcus leaves Robert and sets out to reestablish himself. He finds out that his grandmother had died and left him her house in Marathon. With this unexpected windfall, Marcus moves to the little town to start over.
Once there, he finds a job cooking at a diner, using the skills he picked up during his youth. He soon gets involved with a group of older women who call themselves the Do Nothing Club. These women, in true southern matriarch style, take Marcus in as an honorary member and set themselves the task of helping him find a partner. He soon becomes involved with a local mechanic named Hank. When Robert appears in town, however, Marcus’s new life is threatened. The ladies of the Do Nothing Club, however, aren’t about to let things fall apart for him.
Throughout the book, “The romance is there and it’s a great (if slightly chaste) one, but the most successful love story here is the one between Marcus and the Do Nothings,” commented a Kirkus Reviews writer. A Publishers Weekly contributor concluded, “Brewer shows a wicked facility with the pratfalls and plain speaking of the steel magnolias at the book’s heart.”

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to talk about why I wrote Lunch with the Do-Nothings at the Tammy Dinette! The simple answer is this book follows that old cliché of “write what you know”. The story grew out of the place I grew up, the people I knew there, and the home I was raised in. I wanted to write something that honored these things.
After setting my first novel, The Rules of Ever After, in the world and tropes of fairy tales, I needed to take a break from world-building and write a novel that took place in the real world. I wanted Lunch with the Do-Nothings to be set in the rural southern United States. I know the way of life, language, and attitudes of the area well. Marathon, Georgia, where my novel takes place, is not a real town but is based on several of the small towns that I grew up in and around. While most people would buzz right through these places without even noticing much more than an inconvenient traffic light, but I knew they held a certain magic and charm that would make an interesting tale. I also knew that the types of people who live in these towns had tons of stories just waiting to be told.
Once I had a location, I had to decide what I wanted to happen there. My greatest goal in writing is to provide positive stories with LGBT themes that always have happy endings. Many LGBT-themed books that are set in the South deal with the main character’s struggles with coming out and growing up gay in the conservative bible belt. Instead, I wanted to look at life for a gay man who has already moved beyond the coming out process and is just living life as an adult looking for his place in the world. I thought it would be interesting to take a gay man who is used to life in a more metropolitan area, with all of the freedoms and opportunities it provides, and plop him down in a small town to see how he would maneuver the culture shock of a slower and simpler way of life. I also knew I wanted his search for family and love to be at the center of the novel.
Finally, the tone of Lunch with the Do-Nothings grew out of my father’s love of and skill at storytelling. Whenever my family is together, we love to sit around and tell tales about people we know and funny events from our past. We often repeat tales and even request someone to tell a particular story. My father is especially good at this. It doesn’t matter if he has told a story a million times and used the same old phrases with each telling, he lives for the absolute delight of telling a good story and hearing people’s response to it. The greatest lesson he gave me in life is that you “never let the truth stand in the way of a good story.” I tried to make this novel feel like an afternoon spent listening to my father spin his tales.
Though Lunch with the Do-Nothings was intended to be a break from writing fantasy, I discovered that I really enjoyed writing in this style. I am sure that I will be returning to Marathon, Georgia again to check in on her citizens and their lives inside the Tammy Dinette.

Marcus intends to sell the house to finance his dreams, but a group of lovable busybodies called the Do-Nothings, a new job at the local diner, the Tammy Dinette, and a handsome mechanic named Hank cause Marcus to rethink his plans. Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Killian Brewer, author of Lunch with the Do-Nothings at the Tammy Dinette
Hi Killian, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.
Hey, y’all! I’m Killian Brewer, though most people just call me Brew. I’m a Southern boy, raised in the land of peaches and peanuts. I grew up in a tiny little town in a house where we would entertain each other by telling stories. My father can spin a yarn with the best of them and taught me early to enjoy the fellowship of storytelling. I went to college and earned my degree in English Literature, mostly because of my love of a good story. Of course, like most English majors, I don’t use that degree at all in my day job, but it does come in handy for my writing.
My current novel, Lunch with the Do-Nothings at the Tammy Dinette, was inspired by the people I grew up around in South Georgia. I wanted to explore what life could be like for a young gay man who is suddenly transplanted in a small town with little understanding of the way of life there. In particular, I wanted to follow his search for love and a sense of family in a world where he feels like a fish out of water. I also wanted to write about older southern women, because I think they are awesome.
List the first five things you would do if you suddenly had millions of dollars.
So it has finally happened! My lotto numbers paid off. Now that I have millions upon millions of dollars at my disposal, I know exactly what I am going to do next. Well, immediately after quitting the day job!
1. I will pay off the debts of my immediate family. I am a generally altruistic and giving person, so I want to take my sudden good fortune and make it the good fortune of my family as well. I would especially like my parents to be able to enjoy their lives without the concerns of money hanging over their heads.
2. I will establish the Killian Brewer LGBTQ Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will provide funds to an LGBTQ student who wants to pursue a career in the arts. I feel like the arts are getting cut so drastically across the United States and I think that is a shame. I know that the music, theater and writing classes that were available to me in school were key in helping me become the adult I am today. Also, they instilled in me lifelong passions that affect my daily life. I would like to make it easier for students to keep the arts alive. I also want to help LGBTQ youth, so I would like to honor kids who have lived true to themselves and might need help that parents are unable or unwilling to give.
3. Look out world! Here comes Killian! Yes, I would instantly start wandering at leisure all over the world. Travel is one of my absolute favorite things to do, but with a limited number of vacation days per year and limited funds, I can never do as much exploring as I would like. Once I have my millions, I will start a book called the “where to” book. This will be a collection of clippings, maps and travel guides of places all over the world. Each time I am ready to move on, I will open the book to a random page, see where I am headed, and hit the road!
4. As much as I love to travel, I also enjoy coming home. Therefore, with some of my funds, I would like to buy homes in several places. I would like a small place in New York City so that I could have somewhere to stay anytime I wanted to take in the vibrant art and theater scene there. I would keep a home here in my beloved Georgia so that I could stay close to my roots. I would also buy a place in the Pacific Northwest since that is my partner’s dream place to live. And Finally I would get a home on the southern coast of France so that I could enjoy the beach, be near my partner’s family and have a European home base for my travels.
5. Finally, I would buy tickets to any and everything I could on Broadway. I am a musical theater buff and would love to be able to see so many more shows than time and budget now allow. My partner is not as big of a fan, so I may have to use some of my funds to cart some of my theater loving buddies on trips with me. I am sure I can find a few volunteers.
I guess the responsible side of me knows I need to invest some of the money, make sure my taxes are paid and insurance is covered, but it is still fun to dream. Which reminds me, I better go buy my lottery ticket!

Brewer's second novel, "dedicated to Southern women of a certain age," is all about these ladies, or at least as much
about them as one jaded young man can perceive. Marcus Sumter is rootless and cynical, and getting into a car crash
in the tiny town of Marathon, Ga., does nothing to improve his outlook. Though vaguely aware that his father hailed
from the area, Marcus is in no way prepared to discover that his grandmother there has died and left him her house.
He's even more nonplussed by the parade of postmenopausal ladies this brings into his life: Delores, the menace who
drove her car head-on into his; Helen, who sweeps him out of the hospital and into his inheritance; Inez, who thirsts
for the gossip a gay neighbor will inspire; and a small host of other Do Nothings of the title. Though billed as
romance, this is a classic comedy skit show, a series of set pieces strung along the simplest of plot lines. Hank, the
town mechanic, does eventually wander into Marcus's life, but the point of the story is laughter, and Brewer shows a
wicked facility with the pratfalls and plain speaking of the steel magnolias at the book's heart: (Jan.)

sizzles. But when Robert staggers into town to find Marcus, he throws a wrench into their third date. It's up to Marcus
to resolve things with Robert before he can have a future with Hank. Little does he know that the Do Nothings will do
anything to bring their favorite mechanic and short order cook back together. The romance is there and it's a great (if
slightly chaste) one, but the most successful love story here is the one between Marcus and the Do Nothings. Readers
will be unexpectedly charmed by the quirky characters and clever dialogue in this heartwarming book.

The Rules of Ever After is the debut novel from Duet Books, an imprint for Young Adult LGBTQ fiction from Interlude Press.
I usually don’t read young adult books, but lately I found myself intrigued by all the covers of a new publisher called Interlude Press. There imprint for YA stories and I was really curious about The Rules of Ever After. I was interested by the blurb but the book was not what I was expecting, it was so much more. Not only a YA but a fairytale, just what I was in the mood for. So here I am. Moreover it is the debut novel by this new author, Killian B. Brewer. Surprisingly perfect! Well written, engaging, funny, amazing!
The Rules of Ever After tells the story of Prince Phillip and Prince David and their adventures all around the kingdoms of Clamareer, looking for an evil stepmother and a cure for a curse.
My lovely main characters are surrounded by a lot of people, all of them interesting, funny and crazy too. Like Mitta and her fairy sisters, the main troublemakers with their magical wands. But they are just an example. The book is continuous new meetings, of new little enterprises to reach all that will help Phillip and David to slowly know what is in front of them.
The book is really really well written, with a delicate and precious style, intelligent and full of humour. The author chose to use various point of views, not just the MCs’ ones and honestly it wasn’t confusing or too much at once. On the contrary, I think it was the right way to develop the fairytale in the best way possible. Especially in the different references to our beloved bedtime (and not only) stories.
I want to recommend The Rules of Ever After by Killian B. Brewer cause it was an easy read, never boring and masterfully done, unexpectedly suggestive and poetic. I could see all of the adventures through Killian’s words. I can’t praise the author enough, I can’t wait to read more by him.
Cover designed by Buckeyegrrl Designs. It caught my attention from the start, cause it’s different. I like it!

• Do you consider “The Rules of Ever After” a M/M fairy tale?
I wrote “The Rules” to be a m/m fairy tale but with an eye toward the original intent of fairy tales—to offer life lessons. I also wanted to include elements of adventure. The adventure the princes go on is inspired by things as varied as the travels in The Odyssey to the old “Road Movies” of Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. Though a m/m story was my original intent, I discovered that the female characters in the story had just as much story to tell as well. After all, if a prince is not pursuing the princess, she has to change the rules for her life as well. So the story is not limited to just the m/m aspect and grew to incorporate more than that as I wrote.
• From the blurb it does seem to include many fairy tale basic elements, the stepmother, the fairies, royalty, castles….are we thinking along the lines of Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella gone M/M?
For the specific tale of these two princes, I was inspired by the old tale of the princess and the pea. But there are other fairy tales represented in the book, including Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin and even a nod to Snow White. By changing the gender of a princess to a prince, I had to explore how that would change the actions of the characters in the story.
• What do you consider the most romantic fairy tale?
The original Grimm’s tales are often not incredibly romantic. I do love the tale of Sleeping Beauty and it is my favorite of the Disney versions of the tales. I think as a young gay man, I was drawn to the idea of a dashing prince risking his life to find his true love. After all, half the fun of a fairy tale is imagining yourself in the plot.
• What do you consider the most important elements of a fairy tale and did you include them in your story?
All fairy tales should have a quest, a romance and a touch of magic. Also, the characters should learn a lesson while on the journey. I tried to incorporate all of this in The Rules. One of the most enjoyable parts of plotting out the novel was figuring out how to inject magic into the story and building the world in which my characters live. I knew I wanted fairies in the story, but wanted to make sure their influence on the characters was minimal. I wanted the characters to be active in their own tale and growth, not just subject to the whims of the fairies. I also knew I needed a villain, and the “wicked stepmother” is such a common theme in the original tales that I had to create one.
• What was the inspiration behind The Rules of Ever After, including the title?
Years ago while studying the Brothers Grimm’s tales for a college class, I had the thought, “What if the prince climbed the tower and found another prince?” Rules grew out of that thought. Fairy tales and royal life both have very definite “rules” for how the characters should behave. But when you have a prince who would prefer his happily ever after to be with another prince, the usual fairy tale and royal “rules” won’t necessarily work. As I began to play with that idea, I realized that it would apply to the LGBTQ community, who have had to create our own new rules for life. I wanted to write a tale where a young gay man could imagine himself in the stories we all grew up with but that never included all of us. The idea of rewriting the rules is what inspired the title.
• Which do you prefer Disney fairy tales or Grimm’s?
I love the Disney versions, but I really prefer the tales of the Brothers Grimm. The stories are darker and don’t try to hide the scary and unpleasant parts of life from a reader. The tales the brothers collected weren’t necessarily told for children. They were folk tales that were told by and to adults as well.
• What’s next for Killian B. Brewer?
I originally thought Rules would be a stand-alone novel, but I am currently working on further adventures for the characters. I realized that there is more story to tell about what happens for fairy tale characters after the “ever after.” Also, I am in the early stages of plotting out a book that is more reality based and set in the south. Many of my favorite authors are Southerners and I would like to explore the weird world of the South that I live in.

“Phillip, don’t believe all those stories your scribe told you. Magic is not defeated by waiting for someone to come rescue you from it. You have to fight it.” Daniel paused and took a breath before reaching out to take Phillip’s hand again. “I sat around for two years waiting for someone to come along and fix my problems. No one came, and nothing changed. Then I realized that maybe the person I was waiting for was me. So I went out to find my own answers.”
“I’m not you. I don’t even know where to begin.” Phillip sat back on the edge of the bed.
“You begin the way everyone does,” Daniel explained, “one foot in front of the other.”
“I’ve barely been out of this castle. I don’t know what’s out there.”
“Well, you’re in luck. You know someone who does.”
“What? Who?” Phillip cocked his head and stared at Daniel in confusion.
“Me!” Daniel winked and pointed to his chest. “I know what’s out there. I’ve been wandering all over the kingdoms for months now. I’ve studied the maps and the histories. I know how to fight and how to survive.” Daniel stood up. “I’ll come with you,” he continued. “I’ll help you find her, and we’ll bring her down together. We will fix this.”
Daniel could almost see the wheels turn in Phillip’s head as he considered Daniel’s offer. He looked over at his father, then back down at his feet before glancing up to Daniel with a look of tentative hope. “Why would you do that?”
Daniel pondered the question for a moment, unsure of the answer himself. The pain in Phillip’s face touched Daniel’s heart and made him want to bring back the mischievous, laughing man he had met just two nights before. This was not his problem, and he had his own concerns to deal with, but looking at Phillip’s terrified face, he knew he wanted to help. He knew he had to.
“I’m not being completely selfless. I’m still going to be looking for my own answers. But I can help you look, too.” Daniel held his hand out to Phillip. “Come with me. Let’s go get you some food and make a plan.”
“You’re just saying this to get me to eat.”
“No. As I said, I feel responsible. If I hadn’t gotten in that bed—”
“But you did.” Phillip mumbled before turning to look at Daniel with his eyes wide. “And you passed the test. I thought for sure you were the answer—”
“The test? I still don’t understand about this test.”
“Yes. You were the first to spend the night in the bed and be kept awake by the pea under the mattresses. Okay, maybe some of the others could have passed if I hadn’t—”
“Phillip? You think a pea kept me awake?” Daniel stepped back and knitted his brows; he had clearly missed some element of that awful night’s events. Though he was glad to see some sign of activity from Phillip, Daniel was thoroughly confused. “Why was there a pea under—”
“Yes. You passed the test. Maybe it is a sign!” Phillip stood and turned to Daniel; excitement spread across his face. “Maybe you are here to help me.”

Killian B. Brewer grew up in a family where the best way to be heard was to tell a good story, therefore he developed an early love of storytelling, puns and wordplay. He began writing poetry and short fiction at 15 and continued in college where he earned a BA in English. He does not use this degree in his job in the banking industry.
He currently lives in Georgia with his partner of ten years and their dog. Growing up in the South gave him a funny accent and a love of grits. The Rules of Ever After is his first novel.

Somehow, this book slipped past me when it was released back in January, and I only came to it in the past few weeks. It was a sort of late blooming, I suppose.
Lunch… is the story of Marcus, who travels to a little (some would say “Podunk”) town when his grandmother—a grandmother he has never met, due in large part to a rootless mother who kept his life moving from town to town when he was a child—dies and leaves him her house. He comes to town, then, with the intention of quickly tying up any death-related loose ends, selling her property and getting the heck out of Dodge and back to Atlanta, where he’s got a life. (Of course, he’s leaving that life, too—his partner, Robert, is a controlling, manipulative jerk who hit Marcus hard enough to blacken his eye, so Marcus has left him behind in Atlanta and is trying to think himself into a new life.) While in town trying to settle his business, Marcus meets a gaggle of his grandmother’s friends (I think “gaggle” might not be the term for groups of people, but I’m not sure “group” really conveys the real Bodysnatchers-like conspiratory power of this bunch), who call themselves The Do-Nothings and hold regular meetings at a local diner, and who decide to sneak together to get him fixed up with a “good man” and make him stay in town. Despite their misguided efforts, Marcus finds Hank, who is, by all accounts, a “good man.” As a consequence of finding what he wants in a place he doesn’t want, Marcus is faced with questions about what to do with his life: where he will live, what he will do for a living (oh, yes, I forgot to mention the career crisis for Marcus that’s throwing a wrench in the works here), how he will be happy. (It’s another sort of late blooming, I suppose.)
There’s the kind of Southern Charm here about which all of us Northerners seem to fantasize—tough, stubborn, a bit weirdly-executed and don’t-mess-with-us-dangerous, but loving, protective and well-meaning—that reminds one a bit of those great woman-focused south-set stories like Fried Green Tomatoes and Steel Magnolias, but without that icky schlock stories like that seem intent on doling out. (It feels like the author is not a Northern Fantasizer, but Real Life Southerner.) One is in no danger of choking on pink chintz or juleps or too much saccharine, Poor-Fragile-Diabetic-Shelby-Who-Dies-So-We-Learn-a-Lesson oversentiment (I may have an extra bug up my butt about Steel Magnolias, since I am a juvenile diabetic like Shelby, but I think my point still stands). There’s a light-touch comedy, too, that comes from taking delight in irony: tough-as-nails, ostensibly past-prime Southern belles protecting a young gay man by the means with which they’re familiar (socials, gossip, rifle-wielding).
This novel strikes the right balance between danger and quirk, serious and funny, moving speedily through the plot when it needs to, slowing down when there’s a rose to smell or a point to develop. The characters are lovable and relatable, even to a somewhat cynical Northerner like me. The humor is gentle but easy and fun; the comedy comes from strong character development and not situation (which, in my book, is the best kind of humor).
The romance that Marcus finds is, yes, with a charming and attractive man, but this is not the only romance offered—there’s also the romance of Marcus with his past, with the feeling of family and fitting in and care that the Do-Nothings offer, with the open possibilities of his future, his love of cooking (he discovers this here), even the town’s easy charm. Taken together, all these love stories add up to a person figuring out what (and whom) he loves, how he wants to live, who he is at heart. It’s actually a kind of second chance at this since, though Marcus is quite young, he’s already settled into a life in Atlanta, one which is uprooted and shaken about when he meets the Do-Nothings.
I guess you could call it a kind of late blooming.

A fateful, sleepless night brings the two young men together and sends them on a quest out into the kingdoms. On their travels, they encounter meddlesome fairies, an ambitious stepmother, disgruntled princesses and vengeful kings as they learn about life, love, friendship and family. Most of all, the two young men must learn how to write their own rules of ever after.
Review:
What do you get when you mix an evil step mother, a troll king, several unconventional princesses, a couple of princes who break the rules and some meddling birthday fairies? You get an adventure that is rolicking good fun and one happy ending to end all happy endings. Brewer takes some familiar tales and weaves them into a masterful new tale that’s entirely fresh and uniquely his. All the familiar tropes are here but Brewer deftly creates a cast of loveable characters and a tale that’s light-hearted and funny. This is a modern fairy tale that manages to keep the feel of traditional tales while breaking new ground. And of course we get one awesome happy ending that breaks all the rules of ever after. I was amazed to find that this is the author’s first book and if this is his introduction, I for one can’t wait to see what comes next. This is a book that I can’t recommend highly enough.

“Phillip, don’t believe all those stories your scribe told you. Magic is not defeated by waiting for someone to come rescue you from it. You have to fight it.” Daniel paused and took a breath before reaching out to take Phillip’s hand again. “I sat around for two years waiting for someone to come along and fix my problems. No one came, and nothing changed. Then I realized that maybe the person I was waiting for was me. So I went out to find my own answers.”
“I’m not you. I don’t even know where to begin.” Phillip sat back on the edge of the bed.
“You begin the way everyone does,” Daniel explained, “one foot in front of the other.”
“I’ve barely been out of this castle. I don’t know what’s out there.”
“Well, you’re in luck. You know someone who does.”
“What? Who?” Phillip cocked his head and stared at Daniel in confusion.
“Me!” Daniel winked and pointed to his chest. “I know what’s out there. I’ve been wandering all over the kingdoms for months now. I’ve studied the maps and the histories. I know how to fight and how to survive.” Daniel stood up. “I’ll come with you,” he continued. “I’ll help you find her, and we’ll bring her down together. We will fix this.”
Daniel could almost see the wheels turn in Phillip’s head as he considered Daniel’s offer. He looked over at his father, then back down at his feet before glancing up to Daniel with a look of tentative hope. “Why would you do that?”
Daniel pondered the question for a moment, unsure of the answer himself. The pain in Phillip’s face touched Daniel’s heart and made him want to bring back the mischievous, laughing man he had met just two nights before. This was not his problem, and he had his own concerns to deal with, but looking at Phillip’s terrified face, he knew he wanted to help. He knew he had to.
“I’m not being completely selfless. I’m still going to be looking for my own answers. But I can help you look, too.” Daniel held his hand out to Phillip. “Come with me. Let’s go get you some food and make a plan.”
“You’re just saying this to get me to eat.”
“No. As I said, I feel responsible. If I hadn’t gotten in that bed—”
“But you did.” Phillip mumbled before turning to look at Daniel with his eyes wide. “And you passed the test. I thought for sure you were the answer—”
“The test? I still don’t understand about this test.”
“Yes. You were the first to spend the night in the bed and be kept awake by the pea under the mattresses. Okay, maybe some of the others could have passed if I hadn’t—”
“Phillip? You think a pea kept me awake?” Daniel stepped back and knitted his brows; he had clearly missed some element of that awful night’s events. Though he was glad to see some sign of activity from Phillip, Daniel was thoroughly confused. “Why was there a pea under—”
“Yes. You passed the test. Maybe it is a sign!” Phillip stood and turned to Daniel; excitement spread across his face. “Maybe you are here to help me.”

Killian B. Brewer grew up in a family where the best way to be heard was to tell a good story, therefore he developed an early love of storytelling, puns and wordplay. He began writing poetry and short fiction at 15 and continued in college where he earned a BA in English. He does not use this degree in his job in the banking industry.
He currently lives in Georgia with his partner of ten years and their dog. Growing up in the South gave him a funny accent and a love of grits. The Rules of Ever After is his first novel.
