Romance writer Jules Bennett married her high-school sweetheart at age twenty-one and became a mother of two. She also operated a beauty salon for several years. Bennett wrote her first novel, Home Again, when she was in her twenties, and she juggled two careers until she realized it was time to make a choice. She is no longer a hairdresser.
Bennett has written dozens of novels, playing to her strengths as wife, mother, and lover of romance. Many of her titles feature ranchers and cowboys, pregnancy and parenthood, and life among the rich and famous. In addition to her novels, Bennett has also written numerous novellas and short stories.
Romance Novels
To Tame a Cowboy revolves around the dilemma of Piper Kindred. Her childhood friend Ryan Grant has retired from the rodeo circuit to open a school of rodeo arts in his hometown of Royal, Texas. Soon after his arrival he is sidelined by an accident, and Piper, an emergency medical technician, is among the first responders on the scene. She insists on nursing her old friend back to health, and their time together awakens Ryan’s long-dormant feelings for the spunky girl who whacked him on the nose in grade school. Despite her affection for Ryan, Piper has no intention of falling for a hotshot rodeo rider who could be lured back into the saddle at any moment. Ryan is determined to convince her to give their love a chance, and Piper is increasingly tempted to do the same. A reviewer at Harlequin Junkie “would recommend To Tame a Cowboy to anyone looking to read a great friends to lovers story with a cowboy twist.”
Cowboy romance meets parenthood in Twin Secrets, in which Annabelle Carter’s fiancé has broken her heart. Then her sister dies unexpectedly, and the grieving woman comes home to Texas to rebuild her life and assume the care of her infant twin nieces. She hopes to support her little family by turning her childhood homestead into a bed-and-breakfast establishment, but it will not be easy. Her father’s gambling addiction could cost her the farm. Wealthy neighbor Colt Elliott offers a loan, to be repaid in monthly installments that Annabelle’s father will never be able to make; what he really wants is the land itself. Annabelle will do whatever it takes to pay down the debt, and Colt decides that he will take her, too.
Colt’s cold determination wavers as he gets to know the fiery woman who will not concede defeat. He also develops an unexpected bond with her adopted babies. Secrets abound in this Texas tale, and they could ruin everything if they are revealed. “I enjoyed seeing [Colt] come to terms with his feelings,” shared a reviewer at Harlequin Junkie, “it’s a sweet and sexy romance.”
The “Barrington Trilogy” introduces horse racing and Hollywood. In the installment When Opposites Attract … , Hollywood producer Grant Carter makes a reluctant return to race country. He will make a film about the horse-racing Barrington dynasty, but he has no desire to linger after the last cut. Star jockey Tessa Barrington has no intention of succumbing to his undeniable charms. She has an even grander prize in mind, but sometimes opposites attract. A reviewer at Harlequin Junkie wrote: “I loved the concept of the country girl meets the city boy.”
"Monroes" Series
Increasingly, Bennett creates series that enable her to explore themes and characters in some depth. A series that found favor with critics is “Monroes.” Bennett described the premise to interviewer Joyce Lamb at Happy Ever After: “Three extremely different Alphas … open a women-only resort and spa in memory of their late sister.” It is a challenging project. The men’s childhood home in Haven, Georgia, needs a lot of work. In addition, all three brothers are burdened with long-standing issues that impact their plans and could also derail their chances for a fulfilling future.
Wrapped in You is Zach’s story. He has tortured himself for years over his role in a teenage incident that injured the girl of his dreams. Sophie survived the accident and, despite a visible limp, is now a successful realtor who wants to develop the decrepit spa property. The sight of her amplifies his sense of guilt—and revives the feelings of desire that Zach has tried so hard to suppress. Sophie’s desire for Zach has never faded. “The wounded boy she once adored needed love,” wrote Lamb, “and the man is no different.” A reviewer at Book Disciple advised: “If you want romance without the college kids, sports/athletes, paranormal, witchcraft etc., Wrapped in You is a great book.” A Publishers Weekly contributor noted the “heat” that Bennett manages to create “with sensual but non-explicit descriptions.”
Caught Up in You features Braxton Monroe, who is on leave from his academic career to help run the fledgling spa. Chocolate heiress Cora Buchanan is a blind masseuse whose hands might heal his broken heart, if she has the courage to acknowledge her privileged family legacy. According to a reviewer in Publishers Weekly, “Bennett creates appealing, amiable lovers” with “genuine affection for each other,” surrounded by a dynamic supporting cast. The cast includes Liam Braxton, the alienated brother who comes home to Haven only long enough to honor his sister’s memory, then finds a more compelling reason to stay. Lost in You is Liam’s story.

Joyce: Welcome to HEA, Jules! Please tell us about your new release, Wrapped in You.
Jules: Hi, everyone *waves wildly* I’m thrilled to be here to discuss Wrapped in You! Can we take just a moment and give kudos to the art department on this gorgeous cover?
My brand new series from Kensington is literally a dream come true. Every book I write holds a special place in my heart, but Wrapped is a special child. The Monroes’ series took up such a chunk of my life, that I feel like they are real. Oh, wait, of course they’re real!

Jules: Braxton’s story — Caught Up in You — will be out in December. *yay Christmas*
I just finished up Liam’s story — Lost in You — which will be out in April 2017. I loved these books so much, I immediately jumped into plotting a spin-off series, still based in Haven, Georgia. I love this little fictional town outside of Savannah (who doesn’t love Savannah?). I’m anxious to return to Haven, to the Monroes, and see what else life has in store for them!
Joyce: Who are three romance authors who turn you into a fangirl?
Jules: Fangirl? Giggling like a kid with a new puppy may be more accurate when my favorite authors have a new release. Narrowing down my lengthy list to only three authors is rather difficult. But, let’s give it a try — in no particular order: Roxanne St. Claire, Christy Reece, Jessica Lemmon, Julie Ann Walker.
OK, I completely cheated, but I just can’t decide! I adore each one of these talented ladies and gobble up their books the moment they are released (read: midnight on release day). I have so, so many more on my auto-buy list, but there isn’t enough time to list them all.
Joyce: Is there an idea out there you wish you’d thought of?
Jules: Refer to my author list above and behold the brilliance! Seriously, have you read these ladies?
No, really. There are so many amazing authors in the romance genre. It would be impossible to name one particular idea. I love the diversity, the ever-changing market to keep things fresh. Before I was an author, I was a reader, so I know exactly what I like! Honestly, I binge-read my favorite authors because they make me want to be a better author myself.
Joyce: I don’t suppose you’d want to share a picture of you with your ’80s or ’90s hair or perhaps a prom picture?

Jules: Oh, the ‘90s. I met my husband when I was 14 and he was 17. That was back in *cough* ’92. We started dating in September and in May we went to his senior prom. We had quite the colorful ensemble going … which worked for us. I still have that dress, actually. I’m sure my girls will fight over it one day. *insert sarcasm* Don’t worry, girls, I have a fantastic wedding dress (also from the ‘90s). You each can have a vintage dress. Mother of the Year, right here. Maybe I should see what other treasures I can unearth for them to enjoy!

What do you do in your spare time?
Jules: I’m sorry, I don’t understand the question. I think I used to have spare time — when I was 5. My time consists of my family, eating cupcakes, working out because of said cupcakes (I read on the elliptical to take away the pain of exercising), and on occasion I sleep. Very rare occasion. But, I wouldn’t trade my life for anything. Being an author is all I’ve ever wanted to do, so I’ll gladly trade sleep for creating lively characters in interesting predicaments.
I’m a pretty boring person when asked what I do for fun. Um … plot? There are so many people in my head all vying for “their time” that I’m usually found with a notebook and pen so I can jot down notes for future books. And, yes, I’m old school. I plot in notebooks. I get a thrill out of going to an office-supply store. I embrace the nerd in me.

When Opposites Attract… by Jules Bennett is a well written romance which does not fail to impress you with its fast pace and adorable characters. Tessa is a female jockey who loves her horses. She is a country girl at heart and is not looking for a serious relationship. Her past experience and her current priorities make her wary of getting serious with anyone. Grant is a city boy who is reluctant to return to the equestrian world because of something that happened in the past. He had many layers to his character and it was great to discover something new about him at every turn.

To Tame a Cowboy by Jules Bennett: Piper Kindred and Ryan Grant have been best friends since the day Piper punched Grant in the nose for calling her a liar in the third grade. Even though Ryan says he’s settling in Royal for good, Piper’s experience with men in the rodeo is that their roots are never planted deep enough that a few phone calls can’t lure them back out onto the circuit. She’s unwilling to risk her heart, and her friendship, by getting involved with Ryan. Yet, Piper can’t help but wonder if maybe Ryan is serious about settling down. What if he is done with the circuit for good? Could Ryan really settle down? And if he did, could he do it with her?
I really enjoyed Jules Bennett’s To Tame a Cowboy. This is the second book I’ve read in the Texas Cattleman’s Club: A Missing Mogul series, and I can honestly say I like the continuity series. I am not the biggest fan of enduring cowboy trope, but I love a well written friends to lovers story, and Jules Bennett delivers a great one here. I could identify with Piper’s reluctance to change her relationship with Ryan, both because they were friends and because of her past experiences with the rodeo circuit via her father. I liked that Ryan had more depth to him than that of a playboy rodeo rider. Being able to see that his feelings for Piper were genuine made it easy to root for him as he tried to break through her barriers.
The one thing I didn’t like was how continuity heavy the beginning of the book was. Most of the continuing story of the disappearance of Alex Santiago was woven into the beginning of the book. While I found the developments of the continuity element interesting, I felt like the early emphasis on it took me out of getting to know Piper and Ryan initially. Every other element was spot on.

Twin Secrets by Jules Bennett is the story of Annabelle, a woman dealing with the loss of her sister, her ex-fiance, and possibly her childhood home all at once. Back home and now guardian to her twin nieces, her father’s gambling debts have seriously jeopardized her plans to turn that childhood home into a bed and breakfast. An arrangement with their neighbor, wealthy rancher Colt Elliott has kept them from complete bankruptcy. He’s paid off the bank loan in return for regular payments from Annabelle’s father, but in truth her father can’t pay them either. Annabelle plans to get a job to pay off Colt but he offers her one on his ranch, with an ulterior motive – he’s attracted to her feisty nature and hopes she’ll end up in his bed. There’s more than one secret between them though, and as they grow closer so do the odds of being found out. Will they make it to a happy ending?
I enjoyed this ranch set romance. Colt comes off at first as rather arrogant and entitled, especially when his motivation to get Annabelle in his bed is not based on any long term commitment plans but on pure lust-at-first-sight. But over time his feelings for Annabelle become real and he shows that he admires and respects her. He actually is a nice guy at heart, and he starts to feel guilty over the secrets he’s keeping from her, ones he knows will affect their developing relationship. <> for Annabelle and her girls, with his desire to make them happy overtaking his secret plans.
Annabelle is a feisty, strong woman who’s had a tough go of things. She’s making the best out of a bad situation and is determined to show Colt that she’s up to the tasks he sets out for her on his ranch. She’s attracted to him too, though she is able to hold him off for a little while, knowing that things will get complicated if she sleeps with him. They eventually succumb to their attraction for each other in some sexy scenes. Her father’s gambling problem is of serious concern and it’s clear that his promises to deal with it are glib. I think it was treated a bit too lightly in the end and wasn’t really resolved. But the romance between Colt and Annabelle developed nicely and I was pleased with how they got to their happy ending. <

So, what did I enjoy about Wrapped in you? It has a good plot with lots going on. There is the story about what happened to Liam, Zack, and Sophie as teenagers. It profoundly changed each of them in different ways, both physical and mental. The story starts off years after the incident and you aren’t told right away what happened, but you can make a pretty good educated guess. Zack carries a TON of guilt and is hell bent on punishing himself for eternity. Sophie just wants Zack to love her. She fights for him so much!
What didn’t work for me was the length of the will they/won’t they back and forth. Its almost the entire book! Zack is super angsty and after awhile I wanted to punch him and tell Sophie to move on! She didn’t deserve to be his emotional punching bag. He can’t stand what he did to her but he also won’t walk away so she is in her own kind of torture. It got frustrating to read after awhile.
